The thermometer appears to be very accurate and it responds quite quickly. The thermometer was much bigger than I expected and it is really easy to hold and to read. Tempering cocoa butter really takes a lot of patience. It's easy to lose your temper while tempering but that is no fault of the thermometer. I bought two and one of them managed to roll of the table surface and as you would expect broke into pieces when it hit the floor. At least it is not full of mercury so there was no danger. Also, it broke cleanly into three pieces and did not shatter into little pieces at all. Good price.

I bought this thermometer to temper chocolate, and judging by the finished product of my first attempt, it has proven itself to be very good at that. Though I can't say I have any other thermometer to measure it against, it gave me the temperature of the chocolate quickly and accurately, even through the chocolate that had dried onto it. I was a bit nervous about the outcome since it was my first time tempering chocolate, but it turned out well, and I think a good part of the reason (aside from the recipe I managed to get a hold of) is the reliability of this thermometer.

Given its temperature range (40-130 degrees F), it won't be good for much else besides tempering, but it's called a "Chocolate Tempering Thermometer" for a reason. All in all, a worthy buy, with bonus points for its price. Just note that it IS glass, so you'll have to be careful with it.

These thermometers are excellent. Chocolate tempering requires a high degree of accuracy and quick response, these provide both. If your working with chocolate, these are a must have.

The temperature will go up but it won't go down. The chocolate nearly solidified before the thermometer started to go down.

I do not recommend this product.

Good reviews and cheap, sounded like a winner. Now that I have used it, upgraded to a digital unit, with temp alarm and a clip, to hang it off the side of the pot. Here is the problem - you can't let it touch to pot's bottom, so you have to use a hand to hold it. Holding it is a real pain. Who wants to cook with one hand?

Save the $8 and spend $15 on a digital thermometer, with probe, pot clip, temp alarm and no reason to break.

It's perfect for my needs so long as I don't break it ( again ) the fact that it is glass is it's only drawback and it's a plus because the glass is easy to clean the chocolate off.

Thermometer that arrived unbroken works well. The packaging was shoddy. I've gotten no reply from Amazon.

I tempered chocolate for the very first time last week! And all I can say is that it came out perfectly with the use of this thermometer. I can't speak for the pros out there but as a home baker I'm very pleased with this product.

Love this Thermometer for my work with Chocolates. It seems to be right on the money. I'm just playing with Chocolates, I'm retired and learning about tempering etc. you need stuff that works. And this does a fantastic job for me. The only thing is that this is glass, and you have to be careful. And with all thermometers you never lay the temp down flat or turn it upside down. and when not in use, you put it away. And NO do not run it through the dishwasher, The scale doesn't go high enough for dish washing machines. But working with chocolates, its designed for that and that only. And I love it. Another 5 star rating.

The first one I received was broken. When I called the company, they sent a new one quickly. I explained that how it was packed the first time was probably the reason it was broken in shipping. The second arrived quickly and packed appropriately.
