The tracks from Monk's CRISS CROSS are perhaps among the album's highlights. One surprise, is the previously unreleased cut of the sly, swinging "Blue Monk." The importance of the album's title is not lost; all of these tracks are so well ensconced in the pantheon of jazz classics that it's almost a surprise to hear them dusted off by the fingers of the man who wrote them.

If you haven't heard of The Man, this one is a good way to start. Contains most of his celebrated compositions, though under CBS (the Prestige years are for me the best), with Charlie Rouse on tenor it' ll open your appetite for more. That is if you dig it!
