Book Description

Rethink Your Refuse

Hundreds of millions of tons of solid waste are produced in the U.S. annually, and the landfills simply store it, not eliminate it. Recycling diverts significant amounts of waste, but the fact remains that the majority of landfill space is occupied by organic material. The good news is composting is a natural and beneficial way to eliminate this waste, and anyone can do it.

Whether you live on a farm, in the suburbs or a city apartment, composting is possible. Composting Inside and Out will introduce you to the essentials and explore various methods of indoor and outdoor composting to help you find the perfect fit for your lifestyle.

Inside you'll find:

  • A compete overview of the composting process
  • Advice on finding the right equipment
  • Step-by-step instruction for fourteen different composting methods
  • Ideas for using the soil you produce
  • Quick answers to common problems
Whether you create a compost heap, bury your scraps, ferment them, tumble them or feed them to the worms, you too can be successful with composting. Use the fruits of your labor on you houseplants, your lawn, your flowerbeds or your garden. Put your waste and your energy to good use. Reclaim the benefits of participating in the planet's health through composting—its rewards are simply miraculous.

Quite an in depth look at some relatively easy methods of using your organic garbage as the basis of compost. This book goes into more detail than I thought was necessary where the actual process of decomposition was concerned (apparently other reviewers wanted a true blow by blow account of the process...graphs and charts perhaps...why? Ask them!) but hey, I pretty much know the "in one end, out the other" aspect of the process. If you are looking for some good information to get you started on the road to composting, then you'll want to read this book. It contains solid, doable, ideas and plans on how to incorporate composting into your everyday life; and if you are a gardener who is not taking advantage of the nearly free "tea" and "black gold" you can produce from the throwaways you have already paid for...why not? Fairly well written, concise and well illustrated, let this little book guide you into the wonderful world of composting. A solid 4 stars from me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compost for your garden's sake June 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book because I'm tired of paying to buy dirt. I would have loved this to have been more technical and in-depth, but it answered all my basic questions. I followed it as well as possible and now have compost in my garden. I really love the "black gold" I am able to produce.
I bought this for my Kindle and I have to say I love having it available whenever I want, without searching the bookshelves.
This is a great book for the beginning composter, but don't expect to become a Master Gardner by reading it.
Bottom line is it does the job I needed.
