Great for summer/vacation time/sick days,

I have to say, I do like these books (was first given them by a teacher friend). I use these books during vacation time, when the kids are out due to illness, etc. My oldest (now 6) has always enjoyed and asked to sit down and do 'these' books (any others he wasn't as involved). I have purchased the Pre-K, Kindergarten and First grade. I must say, however, that I liked the books better before this new publishing company. The ISBN number remained the same, although they chose not to keep the Social Studies in the book, BIG mistake, I think. The books include spelling, letters, math, shapes and patterns, and pages tear out. It is nice to be able to go through one book and pull out different areas of learning (another reason why the SS was great, and it covered every holiday, taught about Presidents et al). For eliminating this, I give it 4 stars.

Clear, straightforward, wide range of skills and engaging,
By Fiona "Homeschool Mum of 4" (Caribbean) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Comprehensive Curriculum of Basic Skills, Kindergarten (Paperback)
I have tried a number of 'curriculum' books for my easily-distractable 4 and 1/2 year old. Most of them do not engage her attention, and if they do, they dont seem to really focus on anything with any kind of clear objective. I really like this book, and so does she. It is clear, brightly coloured, calls for a range of skills, is very clear for the parent too (ie why I am bothering to try and get her to do some of this stuff), and has no bribery frills (stickers etc) that I find become her sole desire instead of a motivation at the end of completion. I would definitely recommend this. It is NOT, however, the ONLY thing you would want to do for your kid as a homeschool tool - I think it is a great basis for making you confident you're covering the basics.

Great for Review,
By A Customer
This review is from: Comprehensive Curriculum of Basic Skills, Kindergarten (Paperback)
Although I would not recommend this book for Home-schoolers to use as their primary curriculum, this book is great for extra practice or to use as a review. For the Price, this book is a combination of workbooks put together adding a little flavor of history and science

Not enough math..,
By Honest Andrea (St. Louis, MO, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Comprehensive Curriculum of Basic Skills, Kindergarten (Paperback)
This book offers great practices for reading, writing and thinking skills. However, there is very little math (no addition or subtraction exercises at all). My son is only 4-1/2 years old and he flew through this workbook. We both thought the book could offer harder exercises, especially it is supposed to be a grade-K level workbook.

good, but could be updated,
This review is from: Comprehensive Curriculum of Basic Skills, Kindergarten (Paperback)
This is a very good book for preschool rather than kindergarten. Kindergarten goes so much farther than the topics covered in this book. It is a basic letter and concept book. I wish I had bought the first grade version. I would reccommend this for parents to prep their children the summer before kindergarten. It would be great for that. As far as being "comprehensive" kindergarten curriculum it is not.

GREAT WORKBOOK!!,

I've been homeschooling my pre-schooler from the Pre-K workbook. She sped through that one and she was noticably smarter when she finished it. We bought this book right away. She actually BEGS me to do learning with her. These books have kept her excited and they actually do teach the foundation needed to succeed in school.

I have been using the Comprehensive Curriculum of Basic Skills books to homeschool my children. I began with the books for Grade 1 after removing my twins from public school following their kindergarten year, and will be using the Grade 4 books for my twins along with the Preschool book for my youngest next month.
I am impressed by how quickly and thoroughly my twins have learned, using the Comprehensive Curriculum books as a backbone of their elementary education. I compared these books to Saxon math and phonics, which were used at the public school my twins attended, and to our state's curriculum standards, and they definitely stand up. Although these books do not list science or social studies in their tables of contents, they often dedicate several pages of reading or writing to a particular topic such as American explorers, the human body, famous sports figures, the solar system, etc. Our family uses these sections as springboards to study topics of interest in further depth using the library or the resources online. I have seen only two downsides to these books. First, I have had to supplement some of the math portion of these books with extra worksheets, to give the kids a little more practice here and there before moving on to the next concept. I sometimes printed worksheets myself or let the kids work interactively on math drills online. Second, some of the information in the books is dated. But, at a cost of less than $15 per student, I can definitely live with these minor drawbacks and wholeheartedly recommend these books to others! P.S. - If you are teaching more than one student, I would definitely suggest getting each student their OWN copy of this book. I would also suggest tearing out pages as needed, hole-punching, and placing them in a 2-inch binder rather than working directly from the book, because there are SO MANY PAGES you will wear the binding out if you try to work directly from the book!

A Giant Workbook for All-Round Practice,
This review is from: Comprehensive Curriculum of Basic Skills, Kindergarten (Paperback)
I've used several of the grade levels in this series, and I love them all. The workbooks are really comprehensive, with practice in all the key areas of study. Each page is a complete exercise, and the brightly coloured pictures are wonderful for the children. I'm an Australian, and use these books with my tutor groups. Paying the international postage is worth it to get such great books. There are no books like these over here. I recommend them to all parents who want to give their children a little bit of extra practice at home.

I am EFL teacher and this book is perfect for young EFL learners. I use it all the time and it has become a favorite of all the teachers in the teacher's room.
The fact that the answers are provided helps the Korean teachers use the book also! Bravo!

I was looking for some resources to homeschool my pre-schooler. This book lived up to my expectations. It gave me an idea of what I should be teaching him, and even had a variety of handy worksheets and activities to supplement my instruction.
