Book Description

January 2002
Music therapists, as in medical and paramedical professions, have a rich diversity of approaches and methods, often developed with specific relevance to meet the needs of a certain client population. This book reflects the many components of such diversity, and is a thoroughly comprehensive guide to accessing and understanding the ideas, theory, research results and clinical outcomes that are the foundations of this field.

5.0 out of 5 stars Music Therapy in Theory and Practice, June 3, 2008
This review is from: A Comprehensive Guide to Music Therapy: Theory, Clinical Practice, Research and Training (Paperback)
An excellent book to acquaint oneself with various schools of music therapy providing two excellent CDs. Well-suited for professionals who are not music therapists but are interested in learning more about it. It describes the theoretical foundations of music therapy throughout history, different models, case studies as well as actual University programs. As a European and a graduate student of speech language pathology in the U.S. I found the comparison between the European and the American approach especially enlightening. A very useful book for those who want to get an introduction into music therapy yet want to go beyond it by understanding its history, its philosophy, and its practical implementations.
