Finally an OB/GYN handbook that fits in your pocket yet contains detailed, practical information on diagnosing and managing most any common (and many not so common) OB/GYN problem. For years, it seemed like the Obstetrics, Gynecology, & Infertility handbook (a.k.a. "little red book") was the only one available. Unfortunately, while it helped diagnose a problem, it provided little information on the day to day management (e.g. defined gestational diabetes, but then didn't outline if and when to start fetal surveillance, etc). This book, on the other hand, has it all, including a REALLY helpful section on managing common problems seen in OB triage.

Our residents carry it with them at all times. We're so happy to have found this book..there isn't a better one around!

This handbook is a "must have" if you are a medical student or resident in OB/Gyn or Family Medicine. A very quick and easy resource with up-to-date, evidence-based, and standard of care information. Other OB/Gyn books have increased in size, but this one is the perfect size to carry in a lab coat or scrub pocket.
I am faculty of a FM residency and this book will be in every pocket of our residents. It has also great benefit for physicians in rural communities to get the information needed on a patient in preparation for delivery or prior to moving to a tertiary center.
No hesitation in recommending this handbook.

I've been looking for this book all over the web and cannot find it. Most sites indicate it is out of print or no longer available. Any advise would be appreciated.

Hello, I am an MS3 who recently completed my OB/GYN rotation at Maricopa hospital with Dr. Zheng, the author of this book. This book was extremely useful for several reasons. First, it is as accurate, evidence-based, and relevant as it is succinct. Everything is cited and sections that would otherwise be too long or exhaustive for the book (such as Antiphospholipid syndrome) have the most recent, relevant peer-reviewed literature on the topic so that you can look them up separately. The information in here is relevant for SHELF studying, outpatient OB, preventative ob/gyn, and even goes into suturing techniques and urogynecology. It is very comprehensive. Second, it is a small, very portable book. As any medical student reading this knows, having a small pocket reference for a rotation is a great way to quickly read about the key features of a disease or clinical exam/lab/imaging for a given diagnosis before you see the patient and then before you present to the preceptor. This book is as useful for OB/GYN as the red MGH book is for medicine, and less dense with more illustrations. It also compares to Harriet Lane for peds but again the advantage here is size with just as much evidence-based content. I plan to go into internal medicine and ever since OB/GYN I've kept the book on me because it is the most handy reference to have for knowing the standard of care for ob and gyn related issues in various clinical settings.

I admit that my review may be slightly biased by having worked with Dr. Zheng, but I am happy to endorse any work from a professor as humble and genuinely interested in teaching as Dr. Zheng is. Also this book contains a medical spanish guide at the end because Dr. Zheng works at Maricopa County Hospital serving a large hispanic population.

My most sincere congratulations to Dr. Zheng for a wonderful handbook. It is comprehensive, easy to use, and up-to-date. The pages are jam-packed with useful information that is outlined in a crystal-clear manner. I strongly recommend it for medical students, residents, and attendings alike. It has everything: basic chapters outlining knot-tying techniques and operative reports, excellent chapters dedicated to the diagnosis and management of obstetrical and gynecological problems, and essential and easy-to-follow information from the subspecialties. The newest ACOG recommendations including the new guidelines for the management of cervical dysplasia are clearly presented. Without any doubt, the Comprehensive Handbook was for me the one study material with the highest yield when preparing for the Oral Boards. Again, my most sincere congratulations.

A great, easy to use and comprehensive handbook. The dictation examples at the end are a life-saver for a busy intern; they also help students to prepare for a case in a step-by-step review. Knot-tying, suture types, and basics on handling instruments provide a leg-up to medical students on Gyn or other surgical rotations. The illustrations on basic ultrasound are huge for those running a busy triage for the first time. Overall, a great investment; applicable from med school through private practice!

This is THE must-have quick reference book for ob/gyn. It aids not only in diagnosis but also management of common ob/gyn problems. It is in color, with beautiful illustrations. It's well organized and the reference on the back cover makes finding any topic super-quick (much simpler than navigating the "little red book"). It's complete, yet still compact. It has pneumonics and practical items needed AT THE BEDSIDE such as how to calculate starting insulin in pregnancy and the latest algorhythms for treating cervical dysplasia. This is the best quick reference book I've used as a student or a resident. Even to read it when you have a few minutes is informative and enjoyable.
