Wasn't the best preparation for the exam,

While it certainly got my mind working, this book was of little help with the nursing exam. The exam I took focused much less on disease states and medications and much more on vague diagnostic questions. On the whole, it's not a bad book but be sure to speak with someone who has recently taken the test prior to using this or any other book for preparation. It'll give you a dose of reality and allow you to focus on questions that will actually be asked.

Buyer Beware!!,
By Mary Thomas (Leeper, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Nursing for NCLEX-RN (Book with CD-ROM for Windows & Macintosh) (Paperback)
I bought this book, along with four others shortly before graduating nursing school and began my NCLEX study intensively with this book specifically. I wish I had started another one instead-since I am inclined to finish what I started and getting through this one is killing me. I would not recommend this book to my worst enemy. The situations are very well defined but the answer choices are vague. I found many, many contradictions in the rationale portion of the tests and plenty of typographical errors in which the correct/incorrect answer numbers were transposed in the rationale section (3 times within 200 questions at one point). One question gives the situation that a young patient awakes after being unconsious due to a car accident and has had an above the knee amputation while he was out cold. He asks what happened- what do you tell him: 1) what do you think happened? 2) you were in an accident 3) you lost your leg in an accident 4)You sound concerned; you'll remember more as you wake up. Okay--I chose number one (first step in the nursing process is to assess, right?) The book says that the correct answer is number three because it addresses the man's question honestly; the book also says that number two isn't the right answer because it is too blunt. Gee, and number three isn't blunt? I'd call it a slap in the face if anything. This type of thing is found throughout the book from beginning to end. Don't buy this book, it won't do anything for you but get your temper fired up.

Negatives are a Plus,

I compared this book to NSNA's review and preferred it for two reasons: #1 - Provides reasons not only for the correct answers but also why the incorrect choices are not OK.#2 - Uses color to accentuate different parts, making the condensed information easier to read. Good luck on your exams!!

Not the greatest,
By A Customer
This review is from: Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Nursing for NCLEX-RN (Book with CD-ROM for Windows & Macintosh) (Paperback)
I bought this book because it's recommended by my SON to review for the NCLEX. What I don't like about it is the answer section where it tells you why an answer is incorrect. The editors are inconsistent with their rationales and many times their reasoning is pretty vague. For example, one answer tells you Play-Doh is an appropriate toy for a toddler and then 10 questions later it is dangerous because a toddler might eat it. There is a great deal of review questions and the CD is helpful as are the review sections.

Heaviest book I didn't read.,

This review is from: Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Nursing for NCLEX-RN (Book with CD-ROM for Windows & Macintosh) (Hardcover)
This book is crammed full of very specific content on most everything. I didn't use it to study very much because it is overwhelming to think you must memorize or refresh yourself on all of that content. Other books offer more condensed reviews that allowed me to target content so I could use my own textbooks and notes to review specific details. The CD-ROM was useful to familiarize myself with taking a computerized nursing exam.

mosby RN-nclex review book,
By tr (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Nursing for NCLEX-RN®, 18e (Paperback)
I believe I passed the RN boards by using this review book. It really gives you a good background in diseases and understanding the basics. I would also recommend lippincot and kaplan to pass the boards. It is true what they say you really cannot study per say for the boards, if you understand what CHF is and all the other disease processes you will pass.
One thing they do not stress enough in school is in order to pass the boards you need to do a lot of studing on your own aside from what you get in class. Class is just that enough to pass the class, but may not be enough to pass the boards. Best advise I ever got was do 60 questions in any nclex review book 5 days per wk. take 60 min. then on the other two days of the wk. go back and do a through review of those questions, don't just read what the correct answer is, lots of review books like lippincot will also tell you why the other 3 answers were wrong therefore you get 4 questions and answers from 1 question.

All in all a good book,
By New grad studying for NCLEX (NY, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Nursing for NCLEX-RN (Book with CD-ROM for Windows & Macintosh) (Hardcover)
This book starts you off with a brief overview of the individual areas of nursing such as Med/Surg, Pediatrics, Psychology... for each section it has questions followed by a section of answers with rationales for the correct/incorrect answer. Once you have covered the material from the individual units the book has two comprehensive tests where you can put your knowledge to the test. This book includes a CD-Rom. The CD-Rom offers you the choice of a practice test and a tutorial. Both give you rationales for the correct/incorrect answers. All in all a good book. The only thing I would add would be questions about delegation.

Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Nursing for NCLEX-RN,

This review is from: Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Nursing for NCLEX-RN (Book with CD-ROM for Windows & Macintosh) (Hardcover)
I have read this book and found it to be superior to all the other NCLEX books available. The information is found easier and the rationales better explain the answers.

Good for cramming basic knowledge!,
By
This review is from: Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Nursing for NCLEX-RN®, 18e (Paperback)
I found this book to be extremely helpful as a general knowledge base review, although I agree with others that it doesn't ask NCLEX type questions. The questions in the book are more a memory retention method for the major concepts and facts in the book. So if you really know CONTENT already, and only want to see NCLEX style questions, then this book isn't the right one for you and the title is misleading. However, if you feel you need a review of basic concepts and a drill to hammer them home, before you are ready to tackle NCLEX, as I felt, then this book is a very useful tool and adjunct. I beleive that using this combination of tools (this book for review and another for NCLEX style practice) helped me to pass the NCLEX fist time. In fact, I thought the review sections were worth the whole price of the book!

NOT the greatest review book,
By Leslie "Licensed RN" (Waipahu, HI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mosby's Comprehensive Review of Nursing for NCLEX-RN (Book with CD-ROM for Windows & Macintosh) (Paperback)
This book was the first I purchased during my last semester of nursing school to begin my studies for the NCLEX-RN exam. However I was quite overwhelmed and disappointed at the way the book was set up. The chapters were too tedious and the question section that followed were too much. If you like questions and you like details this book is for you. But I would suggest the Saunder's Comprehensive Review book which I used as the basis for my NCLEX-RN studies and passed on my first try.
