5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful from beginning to end...
This is will be one of my favorite albums for the long haul. The vocals are so very smooth and vulnerable (not like the over processed vocals present in todays top 40 music). The melodies flow together like a canvas filled with vibrant colors, like the review above said "The songs flow together so smoothly almost like a story".
I especially like the use of synths,...

I saw this band live at the warped tour this summer in Quebec City and Montreal and I must say these guys rock. When I listened to the album, there were probably 3-4 songs that were catchy enough but the rest seemed more like fillers, they sounded all the same and needed some more work to be honest. It's easy to see the Jimmy Eat World influence on these guys with the song "It's Happening" which is my favorite song on the album. I possess this cd and I found it not that bad, not that great... But eh this is their first album and they are young so they'll probably be better on the second album if there ever is one. You might like to listen to "Jimmy Eat World - Clarity", "Waking Ashland - I Am For You", "Copeland - Beneath Medicine Tree" if you liked this album.

I especially like the use of synths, strings, and that fat B3 organ.

Definitely comparable to both Jimmy Eat World's "Clarity" album and Copeland's "Beneath Medicine Tree" album.
Highly recommended!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes the warmth from my blood...., August 9, 2004

Compromises is one example of album that you can play from track 1 to the very end. The songs flow together so smoothly almost like a story. Furthermore, NOF is unlike most emo/indie groups today. Their music contains so much emotion, expressed through Nick's angelic vocals, Jon's powerful drums, and not to mention Mike & Matt's clever, intricate guitars. I can honestly say that these songs are so amazing, they have the power to give you goosebumps and take the warmth from your blood. Do yourself a favor and pick this album up... it wont leave your cd player!

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm an elitest... so I have to have my say :P, January 19, 2006

I give this album four out of five stars not because it didn't meet my expectations or not because I didn't think it was crafted with painstaking forthought and borderline genius production, but because I am saving the last star for what is to come. Any band this good, this young, and this early into their career is one to keep an eye on.

The album tells a story. It starts off with the butterflies of new love, moves through the relationship to the sorrow and heartache of losing someone, and on to the hope for the things to come. The transitions are smooth and the whole album feels like a long song with some excellent punctuation.

I have to highly disagree with whoever compared them to Sugarcult... that's almost an insult to this band's intellect and character... personal opinions aside this album is a masterpiece of craftsmanship. This could be their clarity... but I hope I'm wrong and the best is yet to come.

Expect to hear influences in bands like: Jimmy Eat World, Mineral, Christie Front Drive, Counting Crows and more.

In conclusion, I would like to that NOF for making a clear and decisive statement to the current "emo" scene out there.

Jim Adkin's(J.E.W.) said it best with a line in "No Sensitivity":

"You don't have to scream to say something that you honestly mean."

Way to show them how to rock boys.

A Kid's Review

(not a kid-- didn't feel like making an acount)

Number One Fan is absolutely amazing! The lead singer's voice is unique and memorable. The lyrics and melodies are stunning. Although all the songs are awesome, be sure to check out the tracks, "sorry" and "can't forget"

*"can't forget"- i think is the best on the cd. The first time i heard it i got chills and goose bumps. it's beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars very good and not typical, August 17, 2005

I really liked the album. Most of the songs are in a style that's kind of a cross between rock and something more mellow. They all have a good beat though, good lyrics, and you can tell that it's just... real, for lack of a better word. I strongly recommend the album; chances are, most people will like it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good CD, August 31, 2005
This review is from: Compromises (Audio CD)
I am a really big fan of the emo/screamo/punk scene and this band is probably the best at the softer side of emo music. This cd has a few really great tracks on it including:

1) Come on
3) Can't Forget
5) Don't Say Anything

In my opinion these are the best tracks on the album. But the other 7 tracks are awesome as well, very catchy melodies and touching lyrics. If you are a fan of this genre or just getting into it, this is a great cd to buy. Number One Fan is just as great live!

I heard this group at Warped Tour this summer and really liked them. Very nice, personable guys. The music is great, a little different than most indie/punk. Check it out for yourself. Definately worth a listen. Recommended CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars I could be a Number One Fan!, March 29, 2005
This review is from: Compromises (Audio CD)
Yes it's a bad pun. I know.

*chuckles*

But anyway. This is a great band. The singer's voice is incredible and the song "Dont Say Anything" is probably one of the best on the album.

I will kinda liken then to Sugarcult, but with a harder edge and a more Something Corporate sound.

THe mixing on this CD is probably some of the best I've heard on a CD recently. They have a perfect blend of music to voice, and the levels on the guitars and drums are just tuned to perfection! I don't even think I could get a mix this good.

Aside from the drool inducing technical aspect of the CD. The music is just plain great! The music is catchy and takes you along with the lyrics and you'll find yourself humming along after a few listens to the CD. The songs are all unique and memorable, and this has quickly become one of my favorite CDs that I've bought recently.

Highly highly recommended.
