Daniel Strange meets his [end] while riding his chestnut mare on the way to Texas hoping to buy some cattle. He is the best gunsmith in Missouri but his lifeless body is left at the end of a rope, robbing his family of a good husband and father.
... The first of a trilogy, all of them good.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put the book down! Outstanding Western!, April 15, 1999
By A Customer

At first I wasn't too sure about the book, but after the first chapter, I didn't want to stop reading and kept reading on chapter after chapter. What an exciting character Danielle Steele is. I was so excited when I got to the end of the chapter and read that a Part II is coming out in "The Shadow of a Noose" I just hope that it comes out soon. I love Louis L'Amour books, but now I really love reading Ralph Compton books.

I loved this book!! There are 4 books in all, and this one is the best, though they are all great. A female as the lead hero is a refreshing addition to western literature. Some may find it unbelievable, but I thought it was awesome!! I highly recommend it.
