The perfect upbeat synthpop album.,
By
This review is from: Compuphonic (Audio CD)
If you're looking for a dark, brooding, depressing synthpop album, then this probably is not the disc for you. But if you want to set the angst aside and get a perfectly produced uptempo, danceable, catchy synthpop album, then this is defintely the one to get. The songs are fun, the energy is consistently high, and it has become a favorite among modern synthpop fans.I've seen a couple of negative reviews saying that it's better to get Assemblage 23 or VNV Nation. Well, those are good bands too, but Echo Image isn't meant to take the same, somewhat dark approach to synthpop, so it's hard to compare. Echo Image isn't singing about suicide or disappointment or mankind's self-destruction. Sure, there is emotion and meaning in Echo Image's lyrical content, but it isn't to make you move while your head hangs to the ground. It's meant to take the weight off for a while so you can just have fun.

Oh what a fun album! Yes, this is very Erasure-like with not only the synth sytle, but the vocals too. However, they somehow pull it off without sounding too blatantly like copy-cats...or maybe it's just so fun to listen to, who cares?!. Female background vocals, and trancy influences help set them apart from Erasure...and oh my, dare I say there are some actual guitar sounds?I need to de-tox from every listen...so beware of a possible sugar-pop crash. One of my favorite synthpop albums of all time, I highly recommend it!

this is one of 3 albums (the other two being Disconnect by IRIS and Are you weightless by XERO G ) that I just cant stop playing!I know it sounds ridiculous but it actually makes me dance around the room when Im on my own, something I haven t done for the last ten years...it is simply wonderful! "skulk" and "standing alone" and "need to be proud" is the best Pure Pop Trilogy since SOS ,Mamma Mia and Fernando, and Echo Image belong right up there with the gods! The only thing is that sometimes it gets lazy and falls back onto other peoples sounds,(notably erasure),hopefully with the next album this will disappear..

Icelandic Nat'l Heroes,

I have owned this CD for a little over a year now and I'm still playing it all the way through. I burned a copy for my car. That being said...The critics don't know how to categorize these guys and neither do their agents. They get booked to electroclash music fesitvals, industrial music tours, and retailers call them pop. "Compuphonic" is truely a unique and well produced venture into millenium synth-pop music. Powerful vocals, a la Duran Duran and Depeche Mode, combine with thick, aggressive, modern synths. Layering over beats that demand human response, Echo Image crafts a lasting EP that energizes a comparatively drab world of second-generation electronic pop. A must have for any synth-pop enthusiast. The people NEED to see another EP release from these guys. Blix thinks: They are the best band on the Different Drum label right now. (See: Iris and Echoing Green)

Sons and Daughters of Vince Clarke,

Personally I thought this record was terrific -- a great big ecstatic pop record. However, that's a matter of taste. What I did want to point out is that the song "Messing With Love" is a *tribute* to Erasure, hence the similarity of sounds. In fact, not only does the beginning sound like Erasure, the whole thing does -- and further, it indulges in sounds ranging from the Chorus period all the way up to the self-titled album (listen to the sounds at the bridge). There are so many references to Erasure sounds over the years that one is forced to admit they are obviously deliberate. Given the style of music Echo Image play, is it a shock to learn they dig Vince Clarke? He is, after all, more or less the elder statesman of arpeggiated synth riffs. Anyway, this is very enjoyable, although it's true no one can sing like Andy Bell.

The rebirth of synth-pop,

I have a friend who loves bands like Apoptygma Berzerk. He would take me to these CD stores in the West Village of New York City, and purchase these items. Personally I too like synth-pop but I really did not know how popular it had became. I only know the old bands like Heaven 17, Depeche Mode, OMD, and Erasure. I started to listen to Apop, and became hooked. Then he introduced me to Echo Image, and I was amazed. They have a quality that cannot be described. Originally from Norway, this trio combines new-wave goth/mope rock with electronic dance music. Synth-pop is back! If you like this, then listen to Cosmicity, and Assamblage 23. You will not be dissapointed.

You will think this is Erasure at first. It's really good. Some great dance tunes, some good slow stuff.

Welcome to Echo System...,

Echo Image blows the roof off with Compuphonic. Every track is slammin synth-pop at it's finest. This trio from Norway really are impressive. The melodies are fantastic and many. The vocals are smooth and polished, with the harmonies floating peacefully in the musical sky. Although occasionally a retro vibe is felt, make no mistake the technology used in this project is cutting edge, hence the big sound. All the instruments are mixed to be heard LOUD and clear. If you've downloaded the mega mix, then you'll love three songs immediately in "Messing With Love," "Need To Be Proud," and "Listen To The Stars," which are all totally awesome examples of electro pop. The variety continues with the slightly distorted synthesized vocals in "Standing Alone," that has a strong sing a long chorus. "Like A Child" builds to a melodic climax and ends with a record like effect with scrathes and pops which is cool. "Skulk" is a floor packer that really shows off the lovely backing vocals of Trine..."Passion Comes" is a mid tempo number with a unique beat as "Fading" and "Understand" are both solid. "Come Back" is a synthesizer heavy track that grooves while "Good Intentions" is a B-side bonus that rocks. EchoImage has style, class, and they can jam!
