5.0 out of 5 stars Best $30 bucks i ever spent.
I tried to use my 17 inch gateway outside alot but couldn't because the reflections. This hood didn't help too much at first until I also increased the screen brightness and what a huge difference. The best part is that I leave it on the lid folded up until i'm outside again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not so helpful, and here is why...
As it advertised, it works. But it sucks to have to permanently adhere velcro strips to the top of your laptop. But in general, most of what makes it hard to see the screen outdoors is the glare and reflection, not the direct sun. So this product really doesn't help too much, just a little, since it is still hard to see the screen with you and everything behind you...

1.0 out of 5 stars After Receiving It, I Felt Stupid For Imagining That It Would Work, January 12, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Compushade Laptop Notebook Screen Sun Shade
The only way that this screen shading mechanism would work is if you are actually using the laptop in the shade. Then it would block sun and glare from the side, and your body positioned in front of the screen (the side that not blocked by the screen shade) would be in shadow and therefore not reflecting much light at the screen. In my case, I wanted the screen shade in order to use while catching some sun outside, and the amount of light hitting the screen from the unshaded side (where I was sitting) was more than enough to make it impossible to see the screen. I live in Florida, so there is a significant amount of sunshine to be dealt with (and enjoyed). This may work in a less sunny outdoor environment (I don't know) but not here.

I had a cape I use, but this is nice and compact when shooting indoors.
