Editorial Reviews

Review
Important and useful. . . . [T]his book represents an excellent way to learn computational economics, doing it.
(Pietro Terna Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation )

Review
The book succeeds perfectly at enhancing the creativity and productivity of students in economics and related fields by clearly circumventing the traditional approach. The problems presented will attract the students' attention and provide motivation for further work.
(Manfred Gilli, University of Geneva, Switzerland )

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, April 11, 2008
This is a great and moderately accessible book. Covers a variety of ways to solve maximization problems. Especially enjoyed solving the portfolio optimization problem using a dedicated Matlab function, Monte Carlo, and a genetic algorithm. Highly recommend the course with Dr. Kendrick if you are at UT Austin.

5.0 out of 5 stars computational economics student, UT Austin, November 9, 2006
This book is wonderfully written. Each chapter is written using the following structure: Basic overview of the model (i.e. transportation, neural net, genetic algorithms, etc), the mathematics of the model, the computational version, results from your experiment, and additional experiments. Furthermore, the premise of the book uses a helpful maxim: begin with a simple mode and then build from there.

Furthermore, Kendrick's book provides a good guideline for computational economics novices. If you are a more experienced reader, then this book is helpful in the sense that it also provides ideas for more challenging experiments at the end of each chapter.
