Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 2-5-The 34 projects in this book range from the typical-invitations, stationary, and illustrated stories-to the extraordinary-masks, mazes, story chains, and rebuses. The activities vary in difficulty and can be completed with the standard programs that usually come on computers-word processing, graphics, and a Web browser. The clear, step-by-step instructions include helpful black-and-white illustrations. Each project ends with some suggested variations and "Things to Watch Out For." There is little overlap here with Carol Sabbeth's Kids' Computer Creations (Williamson, 1995), which focuses solely on arts and crafts. Teachers and librarians looking for new ways to integrate computers into the curriculum will find this book chock-full of ideas. Children and parents who are looking for new ways to use their computers creatively will enjoy it as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars a most practical and fun way to approach computers, March 31, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Computer Fun for Everyone: Great Things to Do and Make with Any Computer (Paperback)
Ms. Saltveit's work is the most practical and fun approach to computer education that I have discovered. Although not intended as a teacher's aid, I actually like it just as much as "Hit Enter", which was designed for teachers. Both books have been a big hit at our school (Marymount, Paris). The books erase any feeling that computers are too intimidating or complex. I'm looking forward to her next work.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Resource for Teachers and Parents, March 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Computer Fun for Everyone: Great Things to Do and Make with Any Computer (Paperback)
Ms. Saltveit's book challenges its readers to think of new and creative ways to engage children and stimulate their learning throught the use of computers. She shows us that there are interactive activities that stretch children's imagination and creativity much further than a mere game could ever do.
