I let computer turn light on and off so less wear and tear on likely cheap power switch. No batteries in unit yet and I suspect that it doesn't intelligently switch between batteries and USB cable. I have it aimed at white wall behind desk so it essentially brightens up a dark corner; dark when power-hungry fluorescent ceiling lights are off, but nowhere near the light output of the fluorescents. Can easily write phone messages. I understand that blue hue to the white light indicates cheap / low quality LEDs, but doesn't bother me. Quarter inch gooseneck, roughly eight inches long, is probably fragile. So I question how long it would last if unit was regularly carried around in backpack, for example. You can easily handle the head with it's 14 LEDs, even after unit has been on all day. LEDs convert energy mostly to light, not heat. If you're in a dormitory situation, this unit may be a good, late-night compromise for getting a few things done while roommate sleeps, although not bright enough if you've got a lot of book reading to do, IMO.

Also, it seemed to be only unit that accommodates multiple power sources without taking up a possibly scarce traditional power plug slot; USB 2 power a good idea. I gave it five stars for that reason and because at seven dollars (sale price) it was cheaper than most LED bulbs that are screw-in replacements for incandescent lights; arguably disposable. But will see how long it lasts. Hopefully for years.

I was looking for a small, inexpensive desk lamp to fit in a cramped space near my monitor and keyboard. I wanted one that was usb powered, so that I could plug it into the monitor for power. This works perfectly. It sheds enough light to illuminate the small area I need to see; basically, I can see any paperwork I place directly in front of it, and it even gently lights up the keyboard to the side of the papers. Yes, the base and lamp housing are plastic. I'm not hard on things, so I don't have any problem with that. The power button on the base works fine, and seems as sturdy as those on more expensive lamps. The flexible neck of the lamp is very handy. I don't need to use it on battery power, and would only place batteries in the base if I wanted the base to be heavier and more stable - but in its present location, it is very stable without them. I am very pleased with this purchase. I found what I was looking for and spent very little money to get it.

Pros:
Long neck bends and grips easily. I tie it as a knot in my desk.
Enough for lighting the entire keyboard in dark.
Didn't heat much.

Cons:
The LEDs are of low quality with bluish dim color.
Build quality is slightly acceptable.

This product is pretty much useless for keyboard illumination or book light because the output beam is too narrow. I bought this product because it supports AA battery, but I would not have place an order if I knew of the product design flaw.

Another problem: the neck is not strong. I would not be surprise if it give up in a few months once I really start using it.

has the battery option is nice. The color of lighht is a little strange but I think mosy LED of this price range are th same.

This light has some nice features, such as the ability to run off batteries or USB power, and a generous cord length. However after owning it a while it seemed to be less bright, and on inspection I discovered around 1/3 of the LEDs had burned out. Too bad since I really liked it when it was new but I really expected it to last much longer...

Look, you can't beat it for the price. And it gives off a pretty good amount of light. But don't think you're buying a serious desk lamp here, because that's not what this is. And, may I suggest you turn it on, and leave it on, and curb your urges of moving it around too much for fear of damaging it. Buy it, turn it on, and leave it alone, and you'll get your money's worth. It's that simple!

Stopped working 33 days after i bought it. Fortunatley Amazon was nice enough to allow me to return it, even though it was past the return period.

I got this for my lovely wife desk at the office. It works very well providing extra LED light. I am satisfied with this product.

This turned out to be much bigger than it appeared, and cumbersome to use with a laptop. We returned it with no problems and were immediately credited.
