Book Description

May 5, 2009
Create realistic sounding orchestras on your computer Little or no musical notation knowledge needed Create scores for real players to read Tips and tricks to get the best out of your software All you need to orchestrate on computer

Using modern technology, composers no longer need to wait until an orchestra plays their score to hear what their music will actually sound like. Using a computer and suitable software, it's possible for anyone to produce high-quality results that can be used for music CDs, film and TV scores - or even as a basis of a recording session using orchestral players.

Many musicians would like to add synthetic orchestral colour to their work but are often left feeling frustrated that their first attempts don't sound very realistic or that the techniques needed will be too difficult to learn.

This book is aimed at those with little or not understanding of music notation. It gives the reader a basic understanding or the principles of orchestration and offers tips and techniques to help get the best simulated orchestral performance out of their equipment.

This is a great little book! A wonderful opening act introducing the novice musician/orchestrator to the complexities and mystery of the world of midi. The author also acquaints us with the instruments of the orchestra and their individual range and sound characteristics. A very readable and understandable book that wet's your appetite for more. I might also suggest another book that takes the subject to the next level, "Acoustic and Midi Orchestration for the Contemporary Composer" by Andrea Pejrolo and Richard DeRosa, which I'm reading now and would also highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Computer Orchestration:Tips and Tricks, March 4, 2011

I am writing a score and I have enough background but, it was hands on experience I lacked. I feel this book helps those with some music theory background. If you understand chord analysis, you can write a score. It is helpful to have a book like this to cut down on the number of hours necessary to complete a usable score with chord progressions that will cause a conductor to want to perform the work.I looked a long time for a book like this and although it is not the longest book on the subject, pages are not wasted on unnecessary topics.

5.0 out of 5 stars A top pick for computer and music collections alike, December 20, 2009
This review is from: Computer Orchestration Tips and Tricks (Paperback)
Computer Orchestration: Tips & Tricks could also have been featured in our Computer Shelf section but is reviewed here for its wide-range appeal to any involved in music creation. From creating scores for players and getting the most out of music software to learning orchestration with a PC, COMPUTER ORCHESTRATION is a top pick for computer and music collections alike.
