I used this to trouble shoot some Cat-5 cable and some cable tv cable and it worked per design. Recommend for the do-it-yourself crowd.

Purchased this tester about a year ago with the intention of using it to add a hub and CAT 5E connection to a back bedroom. Thinking I wouldn't need an expesive tester I decided to purchase a cheap one instead. As happens I did'n get an opportunity to install the wire due to some health issues. So yesterday I take the tester out of its packaging, test it with a known good patch cable and everything seems good, or so I thought.

After running the wire and terminating the ends I tested and recieved good on all pairs except 3&6. So I would cut each end and crip again, after going back and forth several times and waisting aver 2 hours I began to get suspecious. So I gathered several known good patch cables, including the one initally used to test the unit and they all showed the 3&6 pair as open. The frustration of knowng that the ends were terminated correctly and I was just relying on a faulty tester was not worth the cost. It appears the Tester has a bad LED on the 3&6 which initally worked and then stopped. If you get into putting RJ45 connectors on cat-5 cable you sure want to make sure the connectors are good. This unit will test your cable and let you know if you got all those little wires in the RJ45 connector and crimped OK.

Is there anything else you can ask of a cheap product. The two parts were a little hard to get apart, but for this price I can't complain.

This product was not working out of the box. It is a piece of crap, don't buy it. I got duped, you better stay away. Battery is not included so you will need to buy one. Spend a little bit more and just buy another tester.
