4.0 out of 5 stars The history of computer animation., June 1, 2003
This review is from: Computer Visions [VHS] (VHS Tape)
While this tape was made over a decade ago, it has worn very well. The examples of computer graphics provide an excellent lesson in the history of the field for computer science, graphics arts and other art majors. From the tape, you can see some of the ways in which computer animations are created and hear the words of many of those who pioneered in the development of computer graphics. The advertising jacket claims that over 100 artists and technicians appear. I do not know if that is precisely true, but it is very close, and many different areas of computer graphics use are presented and explained. While the image resolution is better now due to the advances in computer hardware and software, most of the differences are in degree only and you will recognize many types of images that have appeared in commercial movies.
I consider this tape to be a must for any course in the history of the development of computer animation or graphics. There is nothing like hearing advice and descriptions from the originators of the topic and this tape provides a historical backdrop and some of the fundamental principles of how graphics images are made. It is difficult to find, but if you manage to acquire it you will consider it worth the effort.
