5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful book that every shipping manager should read!
This book really explains what to look out for if you are in the market for a shipping system and how a carrier supplied shipping system can actually cost you money instead of saving it. Easy to read and easy to understand for everyone.

2.0 out of 5 stars If you know nothing...
This book only covers very basic information. If you know anything about multi carrier shipping solutions, find another source for information

5.0 out of 5 stars Required reading for any company that ships small packages!, July 29, 1998
By A Customer
This book was great. It was easy to read and made a new and sometimes complicated subject understandable. I would recommend this book to any person that has anything to do with the shipping process at their company. It is full of practical ideas that can make things easier and save the company money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not too technical, just very helpful,, May 16, 2005
Easy to read, easy to understand and extremely informative. Not only does this book appear to be a key resource for "industry types" but it's also a must read for any small or midsize business owner that ships on a regular basis. What business owners don't know can cost them money and Mark Taylor quickly provides the reader with the inside line on shipping pitfalls and best practices. This book will improve your business and save you money.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm saving money I didn't even know I was losing, April 25, 2005
This book won't walk you through the technical aspects of a WMS or ERP system. In fact, on the first read the information seems very basic. However, after reviewing several of the chapters, I can say it does provide excellent guidance for creating a more effective shipping operation. If every shipping clerk and shipping manager in your company could read this book you'd create a dynamic team focused on elimating mistakes, reducing delays and saving money...money you probably don't even know you are losing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Helpful, February 8, 2000

While shipping of packages is important to so many businesses, it's getting more complicated every day. The author has done his homework and explains the many advantages of a computerized shipping system in clear terms. This is also a consumer-oriented book: you learn what NOT to do. I like the honesty and passion of the author. He's packed a lot into a concise book; share it with staff at all levels of your business. At 25 bucks, what a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Computerized Shipping Systems (New Millennium Edition), April 10, 2000

This review is from: Computerized Shipping Systems: Increasing Profit & Productivity Through Technology (New Millennium Edition) (Paperback)
Mark Taylor's new edition of his book gives great insight on what to look for when shopping for a computerized shipping system. The chapter about "free" shipping systems is definitely eye-opening. A "must-read" for everyone in logistics management. The information on savings in the shipping department that can be realized through a computerized shipping system is simply amazing. I was very impressed with Mr. Taylor's knowledge. The new case study in this edition shows us in details how companies save large sums yearly by using a computerized shipping system.

None of the information in this book should be new to anyone in the upper levels of shipping. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to be in the upper levels of a shipping department or needs to hire someone to run their shipping department and needs a cursory knowledge of what a well planned shipping system can do. Anyone who does not already know this information does not have any business in shipping.

This book is starting to show its age and does not covers some of the more important current issues such as carrier certification and deep integration.

Some of you have written that some of the information is dated. This is true. This is the first book which was written in 1995. I would suggest the Millennium Edition, which came out five years later.
