Amaziing !,

This really is an amazing CD. I happened to see the band live and was absolutely mesmerized. All of their songs are in Russian (which I do neither speak nor understand) but the performance, sound and crowd reaction was fabulous. So I got hooked on this band and now I bought their CD and finally I get a chance to read their lyrics (in English) and a lot of songs are touching me even more now that I understand what they are about.
Mumiy Troll definitely have their own style. If you are into melodic 90s pop / rock with some interesting unexpected twists, you should definitely check them out, it is worth it !!!! I guess I am one of their new non-Russian fans and I have a feeling this is a growing community....

They are fabulous, they are fantastic, they ruled my music world once and they don't dissapoint me now! They are Mumiy Troll, the best Russian music you ever get to hear. Before I moved to US, I never failed to see their live performances whenever and wherever possible. Ilya's amazing vocal, his strange and enigmatic lyrics, his untamed energy - it all shaped the greatest live Russian band ever (IMHO, of course). And finally, America, you get to listen to them. Enjoy!

Amazingly refreshing music!,

I bought this album because one of my Russian friends recommended it to me. He did tell me that all songs are sung in Russian and that their lyrics are a little crazy, but he insisted that I would appreciate the music. After giving it a listen a couple of times I can admit that I'm addicted to it! I love it! They have an interesting style, it's probably Russianesque, their melodies are very refreshing.

Interesting Choices,

I got into Mumiy Troll seeing them do Eurovision in 2000 in Denmark, and the interesting thing is that they were singing in English then, and have released English versions of a couple of their songs at least.
That makes the choice here a little daring- This is not "new" material in the strictest sense, but a selection of songs from their past 2 releases in Russian. While all the liner notes are in English, all the songs are in Russian. Makes a little bit of confusion as you try to "fit" the translated lyrics into the music you're hearing, it's an enjoyable ride, nonetheless. In any event, the bonus track, a Russian version of "California Dreaming" is instantly recognizable. If this was to test the waters for an eventual English release, it's an odd choice- Lead singer Ilya Lagutenko can sing in English, and has a unique voice when he does so- A full English release of translated songs may have won over more listeners. |
