5.0 out of 5 stars The Life and Death of the Soviet Brad Pitt, April 6, 2005
By
Graeme Harker (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Dean Reed was a young American singer involved in 60's Left who, after witnessing the CIA-inspired coup to bring down the democratic administration in Chile in the 70's, decided to make his fortune in the Soviet Block. Dean became a huge hit in the Soviet Union. No one's heard of him here but if you ask any Russian woman over 30 about Dean Reed and they'll collapse in admiration like you were asking about Brad Pitt. Comrade Rockstar is an attempt to understand this guy's motives and to investigate the various conspiracy theories about his suspicious death during the Perestroika years. Reggie Nadelson meets his wives, ex-girlfriends and other Westerners who made the move to the East. There are even interviews with Vladimir Posner, who grew up in Brooklyn, but became the Soviet spokesperson on western TV during the reform of the Gorbachev years. If, like me, you grew up during the Cold War and had a fascination for "the other side of the wall" then you will enjoy this one.
