This book provides great insight into two of the 20th century's greatest Christian humanitarians and authors. Both ladies are destined for sainthood I imagine; anyway that's my prayer. I have read biographies of both and also works they have written. To read a compilation of their correspondence with each other is scrumptious icing on an already delicious cake. The editor has chosen wonderful letters from each decade of their friendship to provide evidence of their love for Christ, for mankind, for each other and to incidentally give a snapshot of the changing historical times. This is obviously a work from the heart. This edition is easy to read with few spelling or other errors. Photos are included. I do recommend.

I was first given this book by a member of the community that Catherine Doherty founded. I have since bought several copies for frinds especially those who admire one or both of these women. What the letters reveal is an abiding friendship between two pioneering women who were complete opposites of each other in every sense but united by one bond and that is there love of the God they served and their love of Mankind.
The letters are both fascinating and enlightening not only of the women themselves but also of the ability of the human spirit to endure. They also reveal the struggles they had in a historical context not to mention who they knew and met.
A delightful book funny at times and moving at others.
The collator is to be congratulated, he draws from his own experience too of knowing Catherine Doherty and of Dorothy Day through her. I have reread this book and dip into it which is easy to do as each letter has an insight of its own.
