5.0 out of 5 stars why isn't this film well known outside russia? July 24, 2012
A wonderful film about the ending of the Russian revolution. Knowing little or nothing about the Russian Civil War is not a problem. This is a "war is hell" film and seems to have very little propaganda in it. It is an early film of Russia's greatest film star, the late Oleg Yankovsky, and he shines.

Great unusual war scenes, wonderful acting and the strangest World War I airplane I have ever seen! And the triple ending is very upsetting, especially the scene with the terrified horse and the "very unnecessary" death of Yankovsky.

If you have enjoyed The Human Condition, All Quiet on the Western Front and Paths of Glory, this is definitely for you.
