I was not that familiar with alto saxophonist Charles McPherson until I picked up several of his OJC CDs in the cut-out bin at a local store. For those of you who don't know this underrated alto saxophonist, he recorded a string of records for Prestige in the mid and late 60s, which are all being deleted (save one, his debut). This album, his second from 1965, is my personal favorite and features a quintet of McPherson, Clifford Jordan on tenor sax, Barry Harris on piano, George Tucker on bass and Alan Dawson on drums. I love "Con Alma!" and if you are lucky enough to find this OOP CD, you will too!
