I had been shopping around for a while, when I found this little gem! I have really long, thick hair that took 20-30 minutes to just get to the damp stage with my old dryer. With this Conair Ionic dryer, I can towel off my hair, put in my styling products and blow the majority of the wetness out in about 4 to 5 minutes. I leave my hair a bit damp so that it will air dry.

I think the thing that sold me was that you have three heat settings, hot: which is pretty hot, warm, and cool, which I prefer. The speeds are high, low, & off. I would have liked for it to have a diffuser attachment included, but ehh... no biggie.

I'd agree that it is a bit heavy, but as long as I'm not blow drying it straight, then it's not that big of a deal. I've been using it about a month, and I do seem to notice that it is not as frizzy and dry, but that could be in part to that I've been using it on cold, for just a few minutes, whereas, with my old dryer, it was HOTHOTHOT for 20 minutes.

I would definately buy this one again!

Yet another hair dryer died (I average about 1 every year or so) and I was considering an upgrade to one of the expensive, more professional types. My husband quickly talked me out of that idea and I finally settled on this model. My last two dryers were by Revlon and I had no idea how bad they were until I tried my new Conair. I would have sworn that a hair dryer doesn't make a difference in anything but drying time -- wrong! After the first use this dryer made my very long, straight, fine hair smooth and shiny with very few tangles. I'm shocked at the results compared to my old dryer. If only it had konked out earlier!
As for the Conair 098DR hair dryer itself, it's no heavier than my old, comparably-priced Revlon dryer. It's not awkward to hold during styling and my arm doesn't get tired. It doesn't seem to get as hot as my old dryer but I'm thinking that might be a good thing considering the results. Drying time was less than usual and it seemed fairly quiet for a hair dryer. The cord is short but serviceable and the unit is small enough to fit into my vanity drawer. I'm very pleased.

When I went looking to replace my old hair dryer at the end of May, I didn't realize all of the choices out there. I was tempted by the more expensive professional hair dryers, but, in the end, decided that I just needed a basic, powerful blow dryer to dry my shoulder-length hair. I ended up deciding upon this Conair and am very happy with it because (1) it has a strong "blow" and dries my (not very thick) hair quickly, and (2) has multiple heat settings to give me a choice on blowing my hair (I generally use a medium setting).

This is also an Ionic blower, a concept that was new to me, and, honestly, I could not see a difference in my hair between my old hair dryer (about 10 yrs old) and this Conair dryer. I had no expectations for the Ion feature, so did not downgrade my score because my hair does not seem more or less shiny or manageable in the 3 months I've been using the Conair.

When I got this dryer it was much quieter than my old one which I thought meant it wasn't as powerful. However after a side by side test I discovered that it blew as well it's just got a quieter motor. It dries my mid back length hair really fast. I like the fact that the heat settings are on a seperate switch than the speed settings because my little girls don't like as much heat when drying thier hair as I do.

My last blow dryer took forever to dry my hair but this one does it in half the time. I am a black girl and I have very thick wavy/kinky hair and this dryer did a great job of drying it. This also made my hair less frizzy than my last blow dryer. I like that it has multiple heat settings - high, med, low intensity and hot, warm and cool temperature as well as a cool shot button. The two things that I wish it had was a handle that could be folded and a diffuser attachment but other than that it's great.

I've been using this blow dryer for over two months and am glad I purchased it because it dries my hair really fast without damaging it. It is not too loud and is light enough to handle easily. It is too big to fit in the drawer by my bathroom mirror so I installed a hook for it to hang on in the cabinet below. I like the variety of heat settings; this dryer gets the job done.

I agree with most of the other reviewers. This is a powerful, inexpensive, relatively quiet unit with an easily cleaned filter, and - important for me - a flat air intake so I can easily set it aside on the bathroom counter standing on its end. It takes up a minimum of room that way.

All of these inexpensive units are cheaply made and there is always the chance, expressed by some reviewers, that they will fail early. My experience with two of them is that they both have lasted over a year.

I'm content with this dryer. I needed a new one, and this one looked cool in the picture. I'm curious if the ion thing will make a difference in my hair over time. As the picture shows, it's not too frizzy after 2 uses, will see what the future brings. My hair is naturally curly but in my fifties (aaughh!) it's learned to frizz out. I just blew it dry with no styling tools, did the little surfer flip-of-the-head I learned in high school, and that's that. I wish I'd taken a before picture, but oh well. Live with it.
And besides, this would be cool for playing radar speed-detector cop, or space alien with disintegrator gun!

This is exactly what I was looking for to replace my old Conair hair dryer that finally died after over 10 years of use. My favorite feature of this dryer is that it has 3 heat temperatures, including cold which I like to use when I'm not in a rush as it is less damaging to hair or when the weather is hot. The ionic feature works, to my surprise, as my family's hair looks & feels noticeably softer & somewhat shinier after blow-drying. I look forward to another many years of reliable performance from my Conair dryer.

My niece was very excited when she got it for her birthday. Her best friend has one and she loves it.
