4.0 out of 5 stars Worth keeping in your purse
I bought this item a month ago and I've used it at least twice a week when I'm out and the weather doesn't agree with me (I have very freezy hair). This product takes 1 min to warm up (2 mins if you want it piping hot) and straightens up each chunck of hair in one stroke. The only thing I'm skeptical about is how long the special Conair battery will last and how much the...

I bought this straightener for an overseas trip (to a country where electricity is unreliable). In theory, it is a great concept: no electricity needed & completely portable, with it's own traveling case. In reality, it DOESN'T WORK. First, when you turn it on it smells very strongly of butane. Not really appealing and it makes me nervously wonder how much excessive...

I bought this item a month ago and I've used it at least twice a week when I'm out and the weather doesn't agree with me (I have very freezy hair). This product takes 1 min to warm up (2 mins if you want it piping hot) and straightens up each chunck of hair in one stroke. The only thing I'm skeptical about is how long the special Conair battery will last and how much the replacement will cost...I'll worry about that when the time comes :p

Pros:
- Warms up quickly
- Does the job
- Adds some sort of glossy look to the hair

Cons:
- Uses a patented Conair battery instead of more common AA or AAA.
- You have to wait a few minutes after you're done before putting the piece back in it's compact casing (for peace of mind...not likely to set your purse on fire though)

I bought this straightener for an overseas trip (to a country where electricity is unreliable). In theory, it is a great concept: no electricity needed & completely portable, with it's own traveling case. In reality, it DOESN'T WORK. First, when you turn it on it smells very strongly of butane. Not really appealing and it makes me nervously wonder how much excessive gas is leaking out. I could get past that if the straightener heated up at all. It doesn't! I have really fine, thin hair so it takes very little to straighten it, but this thing can't even do that!! If you have thicker or curly hair, I'd imagine it does even less. The straightener produces a luke warm straightening plate. Even when I leave it clamped to my hair for a longer time, little happens. It's completely ineffective. I was going to take it on my trip (since you're allowed one cordless curling iron/straightener and one cartridge in your checked luggage), but it's completely pointless. It doesn't work! It's far less quality than I'd expect from Conair. Don't waste your money!!

The 1 star I give this product is for the nice travel case it comes on! Looks good on paper, doesn't work in real life! This was a real waste of money I am sorry to say. I read the reviews and people like it so I thought great I'll order it! Well it never worked! You have to keep pressing the button to get it to ignite. Well after an 1 hour (I not lying) it still wouldn't work. I did find a GREAT!! travel flat iron at Sally's that is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Go there and buy that one! You won't be disappointed!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value for money, January 4, 2007
This is great to touch up your hair in the car or at work. It does not get as hot as a full size flat iron, but it does the job.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, June 7, 2007
I bought this recently because the idea of a cordless straightening iron appealed to me. (I thought it would be great for camping). But I didn't like this unit at all. It comes with a butane cartridge that has to be screwed onto the back of the unit. The ignition button has to be pressed again and again until it finally starts up the unit. There is no indication when the unit is ready to use, so I waited and waited, but it never got warm enough to straighten out anything. My hair is slightly wavy, but very fine, so it doesn't take much to straighten it, but this thing didn't make any difference whatsoever. I could barely feel any heat on my hair at all. And, I also have to add that it smelled like butane, which I really didn't like. This useless little device is definitely going back...

5.0 out of 5 stars so great !, October 3, 2011

I bought this cordless flat iron after being without power for 5 days after Hurricane Irene. I wasn't expecting much, but I use a plug in Conair flat iron at home, so I thought I would give this Cordless Conair a try. Turns out it is great ! I bring it to work almost daily, and especially on those "humid" days and I just love it! It's lightweight, small, and heats up very quickly. It actually works much better than I was expecting. Granted, it doesn't close as tightly as my plug in one at home, but it does get the job done.
Totally recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for Traveling/Bangs, July 1, 2011

I purchased this mini straightener for a trip that I'm going on in about a week and I must say that it works pretty well for straightening my bangs which is all I really wanted it for in the first place. If you want to use this for straightening a lot of long hair this is a bad product for you.

This straightener barely gets warm. Not even hot to the touch. Definitely will not straighten hair- don't waste your money.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is My Second Conair Butane Product, April 29, 2011

This review is from: Conair Cordless Ceramic 1" Straightener TC607BC (Health and Beauty)
I previously purchased the Conair butane curling iron and thought I would see what the flat iron would do for me. It's a very good product and gets hot quickly. These portable hair care products are great for quick touchups.

This is a great compact curler. I've used butane curlers before and like them for what I need. This particular is great with carrying case, but does not get hot enough, especially, if you have long hair. I was disappointed.
