5.0 out of 5 stars Great-especially for the price!
On Sunday, my Conair butane powered curling iron stopped heating. It's about 10 years old, but I've only used it regularly (2/3x week) for the last 3/4 years. I had recently purchased many thermacell refills on ebay, so was quite disappointed. I love the ability to use this anywhere without worry of finding electricity--camping and car trips are the best!

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT FOR TRAVEL
Please stop listing this item as a travel curling iron. It is NOT approved for air travel. This is fine for your car or camping but it is very misleading. Butane fuel cells are NOT allowed on airplanes. Thus making this useless for travel to ANYWHERE! Do not purchase this if you ever with to fly with it. It will confiscated by the TSA.

Looked locally for a replacement but to no avail (small town...) Anyhow, I was very hesitant, looking at the previous review, but the price (under $10 including shipping) seemed reasonable enough to take a chance on it, and it did look a lot like my current iron. Got it in today, less than a week after ordering, and tried it out-it works great! No heating problems that I can tell-works as good as I'm used to-gets just as hot as any iron. Plus, the heat cover for my old iron fits this one as well-it was the perfect replacement. Must be an older model, but it was perfect for my needs!

5.0 out of 5 stars thermacell refills for this wonderful iron, January 11, 2011

I bought this for a trip to Paris back in 2009. I paid much less than the current price though. I love the size and cordless feature. It works fine with my short, coarse, straight hair. I don't curl my whole head. I only use it to straighten those annoying pieces of stick-out hair.

The reason I am posting this review today is that Home Depot has "Thermacell refills" on sale, $1.63 for one. It is located close to "Bird Feeders" section. The package cover is "Mosquito Repellent refills", they use the same size butane cartridge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Travel Companion, April 13, 2009
This review is from: Conair Cordless Curling Iron 3/4" Portable Travel NEW! (Health and Beauty)
On a trip to Paris, I needed a curling iron and didn't want to buy a converter, so I used this instead. It got hot enough to give a decent flip to my very straight hair. I will keep it in my car for touchups.

Perfect for travel, but I use it at home also. Heats up much faster than electric.

It works great!!! I use it at work. The only thing that would be great would be an added heat resistant pouch to hold it. I use a pouch from another product. I would recommend this curling iron for people on the go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lasts forever, October 1, 2010
This review is from: Conair Cordless Curling Iron 3/4" Portable Travel NEW! (Health and Beauty)
My mom got me one of these for my 13th birthday, to take on sleepovers and traveling and camping. I am now 42 yrs old and it still works! Great idea, and it has lasted forever. I havent had to buy any replacement cylinders (instead of batteries) yet as the package I received all those yrs ago had extras in it.

I've owned three prior versions and sizes of this cordless curling iron. I just love it! I'm so happy to have found it online. Not having to always be near an electrical outlet and deal with keeping the cord out of the way is the only way to curl your hair. Save a few for me ... I plan to buy more to put away for future needs!

The person who said it is not allowed onboard airplane is incorrect. As of today's date at [...], "A curling iron with a flammable gas cartridge installed is allowed" onboard but extra loose cartridges are not. Conair Cordless Curling Iron 3/4" Portable Travel NEW!

In a trailer, a camper or even a tent, here's how to fix bed-head hair quickly and easily, without whining for electricity or wearing ugly curlers to bed! A couple of clicks and voila! Virtually instant heat. Older style (3/4") and no heat cover, so you have to let it cool down on a safe surface, but at $2.45 each, I bought two, which was cheaper than buying just replacement therma cells for my regular unit. The order was correct and extremely fast (a couple days)so service was just great!

There are two types of therma cells, so be sure to check yours before ordering replacements. I definitely recommend buying this older style, from this seller, because you can have a couple back-ups for the same price as other sellers wanted for just the therma cells. Want smaller diameter iron? Somewhat higher priced newer models do the job so well, and you will be very happy!
