Life gets easier!,

Don't throw your iron away, but take down that old ironing board and leave it down for the most part! This is an amazing appliance for someone on the go. It's small and collapsible so it can be easily stored in your closet. You can wheel it out of your closet and have it ready to go in one minute. It handles some fabrics better than others but it is great on knits. Also great on cottons and linens, but true to form washable silk is still a challenge. One thing is for sure -- you won't burn the garment, like you can when using iron that is set too hot. If your looking for a crisp seam you might be a little disappointed, but not in all cases because once you get the knack and with a little effort you can have that sharp crease.I used a professional garment steamer while working for small clothing retailer. I admit I was skeptical about how well this would perform stacked against a professional steamer, but I was pleasantly surprised. Additionally, I was hoping that this purchase would not be one of those things that sat around the house and never get used or the type of purchase you try once, hate it, and end up returning it. When I purchased the garment steamer I also purchased an iron. The iron stayed in the box for 4 weeks, untouched, while the Conair GS10 Deluxe Fabric Streamer got used almost every day. I am keeping both, this fabric steamer makes things much easier in most cases. I say go ahead and indulge - you won't be sorry.

As good as it gets, if you hate ironing or dry cleaning,

We just got this unit because both my wife and I hate ironing our clothes and refuse to make dry cleaning part of our monthly budget. So far, the experience is positive, with some comments to be made. For positives, it's a lot easier to use than an iron, that's for sure, and if you pay for dry cleaning, this will pay off for itself in less than three months, most likely, if you have some 10+ shirts to iron every month. As for negatives, it can be a bit inconvenient to use, since the shirts need to be hanging in order to be steamed, which leaves the problem of having only one hand free to "stretch" them while you steam them. Also there's the imminent danger of getting burned, which is minimized (for sure) if you follow the instructions (you know? that little book that us men sometimes prefer to skip, so that we can get "down to business"). In the end, don't have huge expectations. This will do the job, yes: you will be able to wear your shirts to work, but (and this is a big BUT) don't expect your shirts to look as if they'd been starched at the cleaners, because that ain't going to happen. Still, this is the second best thing. Worth getting it.

Defective,

After extensive research and being impressed by both glowing reviews I felt completely confident ordering two of the Conair Garment Steamers, one for me and one for my sister. Immediately, after opening the box we were impressed by the high quality of the machine. However, it was soon obvious that the unit did not make adequate steam to remove tough wrinkles from a silk blouse, it leaked water on the floor, steam escaped from the bottom connection, and it left giant water spots on the garment. The second unit did not work at all until the reset button was pushed, but initially it did seem to be a winner, it made copious steam very quickly and did a fantastic job of wrinkle removal-no water spots either. However, the hose got dangerously hot-a big draw back and steam escaped near the handle making it impossible to hold after a period of time. This machine leaked when moved. Both units were returned.

Couldn't be Happier (with my Conair GS11 Model),
This review is from: Conair GS10 Deluxe Fabric Steamer (Kitchen)
Personally I own the model GS11, and I simply couldn't be happier; still maybe my tips will help those with the GS10's just as well. (Still I gave the 5 star rating because I am happy with the manufacture.)
IMHO, another great tip for GREAT care for your clothing (thus str-ee-tt-cc-hh-ing your budget) is to invest in a professional quality steamer. I'm not talking about a hand-held style (those have too small of a water reservoir). Personally I love my Conair GS11 Steamer (it was very affordable and I've worked professionally with ones costing upwards to $300 plus). By using my Pro Steaming Tips below, eliminating just 2-3 trips to the cleaners will cover the cost of the steamer. Steaming actually conditions fibers, instead of drying them out "or worse scorching 'em". Knit tops steam up in seconds, without stretching out of shape. Steaming doesn't leave that classic "iron" shine that shows up on some fabrics, as irons will. I can steam wrinkles out of beautiful silk (with no water stains, nothing)! I can steam press a pair of slacks, with gorgeous pressed creases in minutes, even heavy denim. Pro Steaming Tips: 1. If you get a garment steamer, make sure you get one that comes with both a creaser-head. Hang pants with a "pants hanger" upside down by the ends (not the waist). Place the wand (I don't bother with the extension) up and inside the and steaming out the worse wrinkles up and down near the waist. Turn the steamer off (it takes just seconds for the steam to stop) change the steaming head to the creaser-head; clamp the two legs together with the creaser and swoosh down the leg, creasing it. Flip the hanger and swoosh down the second crease (if the fabric is particularly heavy denim, I'll run the head down each leg, instead of both at the same time). Place the steaming wand INSIDE the garment, lifting the fabric up with the wand and steaming the wrinkles out from the inside (eliminating having to hold the fabric taut and burning your hands)! 2. I always use distilled water! NEVER store the steamer away with tap water in it. The minerals and sediment in tap water WILL eventually clog everything up, whereas distilled doesn't (distilled is NOT spring, or purified-type bottled water) and is very affordable. 3. Simply cool the fabric (for a minute or two) before wearing or storing in your closet. Warmly, Sharon Anne P.S. If you like these tips, you will love my website:[...]

No pain, much gain...,

The Conair GS10 Deluxe Fabric Steamer is a gem to say the least. I am handicapped, semi-ambulatory and have a very limited range of motion, along with a strong desire to have my garments look neat! I have tried other steamers and irons of names I will not mention, but the Conair held true to all that the ad said it would. I am even able to sit down and steam out wrinkles while watching TV. The ease of use and end result was delightful. It is so nice to be inspired so strongly to make such a statement. Thanks Conair!

Better than ironing...,

I got this steamer last year because I hate to iron, and I have been pretty pleased with it. It works really well on thinner fabrics like silk, rayon, thin cotton, and on knits.
I use distilled water in the steamer to prevent any build-up clogs. It won't work very well on thicker fabrics (like denim), or on very wrinkly woven cotton shirts that didn't get taken out of the dryer right away. To me, it is still better than ironing.

No help at all!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Conair GS10 Deluxe Fabric Steamer (Kitchen)
Everyone told me these things don't really work, and this one is no exception. I don't think it's made to steam clothes at all. You have to hold the head of the steamer up above your head every five minutes or the steam will clog up, and it took almost 30 minutes to remove the wrinkles from one pair of pants. The only thing I could see it being useful for is to steam drapes--which I personally do not do on a regular basis. I think I was hoping for a miracle, and for this price, I should've known better.

Good while it lasted,

I really enjoyed this steamer in the early days. We even named it Rosie, for its robot-like appearance. However, last week (after about 1.5 years) of service, Rosie almost started a fire in my laundry room. I had noticed from time to time that the power plug would get a bit hot. But this time, I discovered black smoke eminating from the outlet ... and the machine was still producing steam, which tells me that it has insufficient short-circut protection. There is no recall that I know of, and perhaps it is a fluke, but nonetheless BE CAREFUL.

No more wrinkles..,

I purchased this steamer because I have kids with clothes that always have to be ironed and well small clothes are a pain in the rear to get wrinkles out of without creating new ones. My first use I did ten pices of clothing in just minutes. The person who said that they though the hook for clothes was to low should have tried extending it up, it is adjustable. I stand 5'8" and it is taller than I am. I noticed that you have to make sure the hose is extended and that was simple to do, I just have the base further away from where I am. The lower you hang your clothes the futher away. I can proudly put my iron away until I need something pressed but even then the crease attachment works just as well.

This steamer does a great job for moderately wrinkled clothes. However, heavier or badly wrinkled items would be easier to iron. One complaint is that it is not high enough. There is an extension rod with a place to hang clothes, however, this necessitates bending quite a bit, and I am not exceptionally tall, a little over 5'8". The wheels are a nice touch enabling you move the steamer around easily. I would have preferred adjustable steam settings, but then, this is not a high end machine. Final score: Worth the price |
