4.0 out of 5 stars Weak heat but still well worth it!
I recently purchased this item and love it! True it's not a soft, fluffy massage but it really works out the kinks in my neck. If you're feeling creative and don't mind holding it in slightly awkward positions, it can also be used to massage your scalp, shoulders, and even the sides of your foot! 3.0 out of 5 stars effective neck massager but noisy and no width adjustment
I just got the massager and it seems to work ok. My main complaints are the whirring noise that it makes and the fact that there's no neck size adjustment so if you have a man's collar size of 15 1/2 - 16" like myself, it may feel a little too tight. But, I'm keeping it just the same and I'll keep using it but not too snugly against my neck. Just realized the heat...

The massager works as stated but the heat is very low and if you're not careful I believe the "machine" can bruise your neck ....... it felt like it did just that to mine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Weak heat but still well worth it!, November 27, 2009
This review is from: Conair NM10 Heated Shiatsu Neck Massager, Gray (Health and Beauty)
I recently purchased this item and love it! True it's not a soft, fluffy massage but it really works out the kinks in my neck. If you're feeling creative and don't mind holding it in slightly awkward positions, it can also be used to massage your scalp, shoulders, and even the sides of your foot! I found that while the massage seems a bit harsh at first, I quickly got used to it and learned to really appreciate the strong pressure of the rollers on my muscles. After just 15 minutes of use, my neck is so nice and loose it's almost a challenge to hold it up. Now that's relaxation!

While I'd love to give this puppy a full 5 stars, two things are preventing me from doing so. First of all, it's loud, and with it being on the neck it's hard to hear anything else but the whir of the motor, and secondly, the heat just plain sucks. I have a Homedic Massage Chair Pad and the heat on that think makes this one seem especially pathetic. You're lucky if it's even noticeable. The noise alone I can handle, but when it advertises heat and doesn't deliver, well... that's pretty disappointing.

Overall I've found this to be a surprisingly versatile device that's just wonderful for relaxation. Well worth the thirty dollars if you're not set on the heat function being worth anything.

2.0 out of 5 stars Conair Neck Massager, January 6, 2009

This massager technically does the job, but I suggest looking for something else. It starts to hurt after awhile, since it just rolls around in the same spot the whole time. It is also louder than other massagers I have seen, and the noise gets annoying pretty quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for me!, July 14, 2010
This review is from: Conair NM10 Heated Shiatsu Neck Massager, Gray (Health and Beauty)
I compared this product ("Conair NM10 Heated Shiatsu Neck Massager.") with a similar product "Homedics NMS-350A Shiatsu Neck Massager." Both cost around $30 on Amazon at the time I am writing this.

The general shape and functions on the two products are pretty much the same except the Conair has two speeds and and no vibration mode and the Homedics has one speed and a vibration mode. They both have a heat option. When the Homedics is in vibration mode the Shiatsu swivels stop.

I got the Conair in never-used condition for $10 at a church rummage sale, and after several uses the motor stopped working so I ordered the Homedics. But later I tried the Conair and it worked. It turns out that both products turn off automatically as a safety measure. I didn't have the documentation for why the Conair turns off (time limit or motor overheating) but the Homedics turns off after 20 minutes.

For me the Conair was way better. The Homedics had an intermittent whiny grating noise which seemed related to the position or pressure. Sometimes it did not occur but I did not want to figure out the problem and have to work around that irritating noise.

More importantly, the Homedics did not fit my neck well so I could not get the pressure I wanted. I tried various positions, including bed, hard floor, and turning it upside down. My neck is thin, so it may work better for people who have thicker necks or who want only light pressure from the Shiatsu swivels.

There is a semicircular pad that extends below the Shiatsu swivels on both models, which seems to be designed to support the neck or upper back so the swivels don't just poke out of nowhere. This support pad was hard and uncomfortable on the Homedics model, particularly when I pulled on the wings to get more pressure (the documentation states that the handles in the wings are designed for pulling to apply more pressure). This same upper back / neck pad was soft and comfortable on the Conair. I rarely return items but I returned the Homedics to Amazon because it was so much less effective and less comfortable than the Conair.

Not long after getting the Conair I started using it for my whole back which may have been the cause of the automatic shut-off (too much time or overheating). But the shut-off is not a problem because I usually finish before it happens.

When doing the back I spread the side wings (which were designed to hang down from both sides of the neck). This doesn't seem to damage them so far as they are filled with resilient foam. Laying on a carpeted floor, starting in the lumbar region I prop my upper body up with a large bed rest pillow or several pillows and also pillows under my fanny so that I am not laying directly on the unit but just the right height above it so there is just the right amount of pressure (also the back does not have to arch so much). I wait about 50 cycles at each spot then move it a couple inches up the spine. I gradually reduce the pillow support to nothing I shift it to upper back and neck. As soon as it is above the lumbar region I put a Homedics Shiatsu lumbar massager there and have both going at once. Using the Conair this has been fantastic for loosening up a spasmed lower back that I have got from time to time in life from sitting at a computer for too long. I'd say I cut a couple of weeks from my normal recovery period for this problem. I also have a new tendency to tighten up on the left neck/shoulder area and this seems to be a big help to that problem also.

4.0 out of 5 stars My wife loves it., June 17, 2009

We've had it for almost 6 months now and it works great. You really only need to use for about 5 minutes and your neck and shoulders will be relaxed. It's not hard to hear the tv as long as you aren't the one wearing it. If you're wearing it then it's a little hard to hear but I don't see that as being a big deal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but can be improved, September 14, 2010

The massage strength is perfect for me, except that it's too big for my neck. I had to lay down in order for the balls to touch my neck. If I sit up, then I had to hold it hard forward in order to feel the kneading. The string to keep both sides together is a joke. But once I got into the right spot, boys... it does a wonderful job... better than my massage therapist... so beside those little inconvenient, it works perfect for me.

2.0 out of 5 stars worked for about 30 seconds, February 4, 2011

This worked nice for about 30 seconds and when we tried to turn it on again: nothing. Returned it to the company, got a complete refund, inc. postage. They must have realized it didn't work also. Too bad, could have been nice. Bought another brand.

This works great if you have a tense neck. Only use it for 20 min. though, otherwise your neck will get real sore.
