These work perfect for my basset hound! The couple weeks he's been clacking around the house (wood floors) because the previous clippers stopped making a clean cut. I recommend these highly compared to the guillotine style of nail clipper ( http://www.amazon.com/Safari-Guillotine-Large-Nail-Trimmer/dp/B0002RJM82/ref=pd_sbs_k_3 ).
These are built strong and the blade is plenty sharp. Two halves are held together with nut and bolt instead of a rivet, so they can be tightened down as they age. Also, not shown in the picture is a guard that sits about 1/8" away from the blade so that if your dog squirms the whole nail won't get chopped off. This is a nice touch that had me done with nail clipping duties in about 2 minutes. This can be rotated out of the way if you don't want to use it. Great buy - Ordering one for my mom as well!

Convenient for squeamish doggies who don't like getting trimmed. I love these! They work great. All the colors are beautiful. They store easily and cut nails without any pain.

Don't try to clip a dogs nails without these. They are sturdy, sharp and durable. My dog still runs from me when I get them out, so don't expect miracles.

I used these for the first time and they cut very clean without effort. It comes with a guard but I don't really use that. Unfortunately I cut a claw too short. The freaking thing wouldn't stop bleeding. I ended up putting flour on the tip and the bleeding stop. It's amazing how fast you can find solutions on google. So now I just cut the very little tip that is sharp. I also use a file after just to round them off. I would recommend these since they are nice and sharp and feels sturdy on your hands.

I've had dogs for 20 years that I clipped the nails of myself. Wish I had owned this years ago. My Dachshund actually will let me cut her nails without intense fear now. This clipper is so strong that I can cut her nails so quickly that she really doesn't get upset. I bought the biggest size because we also have a large dog. This larger clipper works JUST FINE with our small dog as well. Highly recommend. It has made a previously UNPLEASANT task much easier and therefore I am willing to do it more often.

Strange thing is that my dog doesn't really like the feel of this clipper, mainly because you have to use alot of force to actually cut the nail. However, it has come in very hand for small jobs around the house such as cutting curtain rods. So even though it wasn't used for its purpose I still give it a four out of five.
