Wow, Steve Perry....great "Conan Writer", November 18, 2010
This review is from: Conan The Fearless (Mass Market Paperback)
I was enthralled right at the start of this book. I've been reading Conan books for a long time and can honestly say Steve Perry's "Conan The Fearless" is my favorite with "Conan The Defiant" a close second (another Steve Perry masterpiece). The villains are intriguing, the plot is well thought out and Conan couldn't be more dashing, courageous and explicit. Robert E. Howard's work is done justice by Steve Perry.
His story telling is of the mature nature but not over the top. I just wish Mr. Perry had wrote more Conan books!!

As Near Robert E. Howard as You Can Get, January 1, 2008
This review is from: Conan The Fearless (Mass Market Paperback)
Steve Perry simply revels in fantasy with "Conan the Fearless." Perry doesn't hold back a thing, bringing in demons, werecats, frost monsters, and of course sorcery and sword play. Maybe some of the ideas are a little cheesey, but the writing is strong enough to pull most of them off so it all flows naturally and in a logical manner.
Perry makes good use of imagery and has one of the better vocabularies of the Conan pastiche authors I have read, which is nearly all of them.
I highly recommend this book for Conan fans and fans of fantasy in general, since there are tons of fantasy elements here in a well-crafted tale that will keep you turning pages.

interesting story, February 9, 2008
This review is from: Conan The Fearless (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this story reasonably engaging. Perry certainly strove to closely parallel Howard's style and wording, but the plot is ultimately less enthralling than that of Roberts's "Conan the Rogue." It is remarkable how much strongly R-rated content (rated MS: mature or sexual content) is to be found. It may seem like a minor detail, but I would have found the atmosphere more engaging had Perry striven for more clever proper names: as it is, he just used Swedish words (for example, "Castle Slott": slott is merely Swedish for 'castle').
