Product Description

Conan has been many things over the years, since his creation in 1930, including a thief, outlaw, mercenary and even a King. Orginally from the Cimmerian peoples, whose ancestory can ber traced back to Atlantis, Conan exists in the mythical Hyborian age. He was born on the battle field and is the son of a black smith. At the age 15 he was already a respected warrior and soon followed his hearts lust for wandering finding almost 8 decades of adventure. His travels carrying him from the novels of Weird Tales, to comic books and film. This is the sword of Conan's father, a master black smith. Although, Conan has had many swords this was the sword that began it all. The sword is very well made with extreme details, down to the grain of antlers and texture of the Elk Skull. This is an essential piece to add to any fantasy collection. The sword includes as black end cap and Wooden Wall Mount Plaque. Attributes of the Weapon: Blade: The blade of the sword is 440 stainless steel with a ridge down the center of the sword. Imprinted into the ridge of the blade are the words "Suffer No Guilt Yee Who Wield This In the Name of Crom." The blade comes unsharpened with a sharp point. Guard: The guard is a bronzed Elk skull with the antlers making up the arms of the cross guard. The Elk skull is highly detailed down to the texture of the antlers and hollow of the eyes. Handle: The handle of the sword is solid steel wrapped with a brown cord. The pommel of the sword is bronzed solid metal alloy with complex patterning. The very end of the pommel is made in the likeness of an Elk hoof. Plaque: Easily Wall Mounted. The plaque is dark stained wood with wall mount screws.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great buy if you don't expect too much, June 13, 2010

This review is from: Conan the Barbarian Father's Sword (Misc.)
I've been wanting a replica of this sword since I first saw Conan the Barbarian in the early 80s, but not enough to pay a couple of grand for a really good one. I was delighted and astonished to find this on Amazon and not on all the weapons-specific sites. A sword in the $30-40 range is always going to be stainless steel, cast bronze (if you're lucky), and an overly heavy blade. This one is no exception, it's a stainless steel blade with no fuller, so is considerably heavier than the original or a carbon steel replica you can get for $1500 or more. The runes are not etched, and the fittings are a bit loose. The stag head is very heavy brass and is pretty good looking. The sword is much heavier than any historical battle sword; even big German Zweihanders usually never got over 6 pounds, and this is over 9 pounds (4.3 kilos). The grip is hand-and-a-half, with thin leather thongs for a decent grip.

And despite the fact that it would be totally useless in battle, I really do love it. Every time I pick it up the opening theme from the movie starts running through my head. I'm a big guy so the 9.5+ pounds don't seem terribly heavy to me, and it is a pleasure to handle even though I would definitely go with one of my other swords if it came to a fight. The blade is very broad; at least an inch broader than any other sword, and I mention it merely because that for some reason is very pleasing to me.

This is a great CHEAP replica; if you're looking for the exact copy from the movie, you can get it. But you get what you pay for, and a $35 sword is never going to be battle-worthy. If you don't expect too much, this is really great buy. And I like it better than the Lord of the Rings replicas, because while they are a bit better quality, they're still stainless steel with fake fullers and low tolerance fittings, and they cost 3-4 times more. For the money this sword is AWESOME.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Company!, December 4, 2010

The sword is just as promised, a wall hanger. Looks fine, feels fine, looks cool on the wall. Wait, I can't hang my sword up, it never came with the wall plaque! I've call the company several times and am always promised the missing piece to no avail. What gives, who's head do you have to chop off with this Conan sword to get the wall plaque? If you are looking for a Father sword this is the one to get, just be wary of the company you get it from...
