Product Description

Style Name: Jeffersonian

Amazon.com Product Description

One of the most uniquely designed thermometers available; the Jeffersonian thermometer is inspired by Thomas Jefferson's notable prowess for mechanical invention. The carousel-style thermometer rests atop a thin brass stand and features gradated temperature readings and Arabic numerals perforated in brass with glimmering, easy-to-read steel background offering a sharp contrast. Convincingly antiqued solid brass blends right in with the traditional venue, while stainless steel inner workings resist rust for years of accurate temperature readings in both Celsius and Fahrenheit. Matching a full line of Jeffersonian devices made in the USA, the thermometer is guaranteed for life!

Product Description

These extraordinary instruments set a new standard in both form and function. This Jeffersonian collection offers the owner an artistic embellishment to a favored garden retreat. Made from solid brass, glass and stainless steel, they are certain to offer a lifetime of service and value. Included with each Jeffersonian are a pressure treated wooden stake for ground installation, as well as a hanger bolt for mounting on a post, fence or deck rail. Like all Conant Custom Brass products, the Jeffersonian Collection is Guaranteed for Life! The genuine beauty of an antique patina appeals to those with a traditional aesthetic. These products start with a natural tumbled finish. Within a few months of exposure to the elements, the solid brass casing begins to age gracefully and to develop a mellow patina. All Conant Custom Brass products have a living finish that enhances their genuine beauty for years to come.

1.0 out of 5 stars Is Vermont in China?, January 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was very disappointed when I discovered that this particular T-6 Vermont Thermometer was "Made in CHINA". I own other Conant Brass products and have been very pleased w/ them. When this T-6 arrived, I placed it beside the Conant thermometer I've had on the front porch for years. It was reading off by several degrees, so I looked at it closer. CHINA was stamped on the back of the brass housing. The product packaging seemed to indicate it was made in Vermont, so I studied the box for about 10 minute before I found the very inconspicuos "Made in China" inside one of the Conant Brass trademark circles on the bottom of the box.

Although Conant Brass didn't say it was made in the USA, there was that implication. The fact that the required "Made in China" label on the box was so deceptively? hidden really angered me. I returned it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Like the brass... but not sure how accurate it is..., February 17, 2009
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered this because I like the look of the brass holder. I read the reviews that complained about the numbers being too small, but that did not bother me. (My husband thought it was too small to read though, so he agrees with other reviewers.) When it arrived, it read the accurate temperature inside, so I hung it up outside. When it was outside, the temperature was not reading accurately. It was anywhere from 10 to 20 degrees above the actual temp., so I contacted Amazon and they sent me a replacement. In the meantime, we had some really cold days, and the thermometer seemed to start registering correctly. Who knows? When the second one arrived, I put it out next to the first. The second one registered anywhere from 5 to 10 degrees above the first one. So, I am not sure how accurate these thermometers are... Anyways, I ended up returning the second one as it seems the first ended up being closer to the actual temperature (at least I think!)

follow up- Sept 2009 - the thermometer is now stuck at 63 degrees... pretty sure it is not always 63 degrees here!

5.0 out of 5 stars World's best outdoor thermometer, October 11, 2008
I recently purchased this thermometer to give to a friend and did so based on my first hand experience. This thermometer is an excellent example of something that is beautiful built in terms of form and function. It's simplicity gives it a classic look. It ages beautifully and one never has to worry about any finish giving out. The first five years of its life were spent outdoors on a deck in Vermont. It has seen just about every conceivable weather imaginable. Thirty below temps, driving snow, rain, freezing rain and baking summer sun to name a few. To put it simply, it lived in a world of constant abuse and always performed perfectly. Every time I've checked its calibration, it's been dead on. I image I'll have this thermometer for the rest of my life unless I lose it somehow. I suppose its only downsides are that it reads inaccurately when direct sunlight hits the brass and the numbers aren't big enough to see from far away. Both of these shortcomings can be easily dealt with, however.
