I first heard of Augury due to Etienne Galo being the drummer for both Negativa and Augury, and since he was good enough to play with Luc Lemay in the former band, I decided to check out the latter. From the opening of Beatus, I knew this band was very different from what I had been used to in the sometimes one dimensional world of extreme metal. The balance of classical and extreme, of dark and light were very apparent upon first listen. I immediately took note of singer Arianne Fleury and her operatic vocals adding touches of brilliance on and already near perfect landscape of auditory bliss. Every member of the band knows their instruments and knows them well. The solos blend technicality with an ear for melody, and the varying vocals from Patrick Loisel really keep the listener hooked, from low death growls all the way up to relatively clean passages. With so many aspects of Concealed that come forth to the listener, it is meaningless to provide a track by track basis. Suffice to say the album explores different directions of extreme metal, none of which are disappointing. I will say the track that had me hooked on the album as a whole is "The lair of purity" which provides the listener with examples of the greatest dynamics of the band. Overall I would say this is required listening to anyone who is a fan of metal with an open mind.
