USB/SD Front ports info,
By Chad (Orem, UT USA) - See all my reviews

I looked everywhere I could think of for support on this item, but I could not find any information on how the front USB port and SD slots actually work and what files they support. I spent a decent amount of time trying to get my USB to work because I keep a lot of my movie files on an external hard drive. Here's what I found:
The front USB port and SD slot ONLY support FAT32 formatted devices. If you use an NTFS device, none of the files will be recognized. The only video files I could get to play using a portable external hard drive (nice because it doesn't need additional power) were .AVI format files. I tried .MP4 and .WMV with no success. I was also able to play the .AVI files using a flash/thumb drive and an SD card. I'm not big on it, but I was able to get .JPEG photo files to show up; there are some fun features that let you flip the photos and rotate them. Another issue I had was being able to even access the USB/SD files. I thought it was input 2, but it is actually the same input as the DVD (Note: the front A/V port is input 2, just not the other front ports). If there isn't a DVD in, the screen will search for an SD card or a USB device. If there is a DVD in (and playing), you can simply press the SD/DVD button on the remote to bring up the device selection and choose SD or DVD. One last tip: the device will automatically search for video files on your hard drive, if they are buried too deep (around 4 or 5 folders deep) they will not be found. The only downside is that the device does not show folders, it lists all of your media files in a row, so it can take a while to find what you are looking for. I have two of them hooked together and I love it. The one screen can play what the other is, or vice-versa, or they can play their own movies. IR wireless headphones are fun, but of course, only work if you are directly in front of the TV. I will definitely give these 5 stars. -1/2 a star for the lack of information online and in the manual. As long as they last at least a few years I will stick with my five stars.

I just bought a 2012 Kia optima with the sand / beige leather interior and in our last car we had the kind of player that attatched to the seat and they were always getting mashed by carseats and the wires were tripped on and eventually broke so we wanted to pimp our ride with these. the leather matches pretty darn close. We actually went to car toys and took them out of the package and compared it before I bought them. The quality was surprisingly good. the leather covers seem durable and well stitched. The buttons seem durable and they are backlit which is a plus. I like that I can have each kid watch something different. Now the bad. I bought these assuming that they would have the very basic functions included in most other players. these optional plugs to wire directly to 12v dc so I did an elaborate setup where I wired the power switch for each headrest to it's own toggle switch under my driver dash thinking that these players would be smart enough to turn themselves on when voltage applied or atleast have an option in the menu to enable automatic powerup but when I toggle power to the headrests I then have to physically turn each one on which basically defeats the purpose of having wired in switches. Also when they you turn it off it doesn't go to the same input as when powered down so when you have one of these in slave mode to the other not only do you have to turn each one on but then switch to the right input. Also they seemed to not have any function to resume dvd playback where you left off automatically. these complaints may seem silly but when you've had all these features in every previous cheap dvd car system before you wonder why you can't have these features in a more expensive system.
