Book Description

Cambridge Ocean Technology Series January 28, 1994
This book shows how the engineering and architectural aspects of submarine design relate to each other, and describes the operational performance required of a vessel. The authors explain concepts of hydrodynamics, structure, powering and dynamics, in addition to architectural considerations that bear on the submarine design process. They pay particular attention to the interplay among these aspects of design, and devote a final chapter to the generation of the concept design for the submarine as a whole. Submarine design makes extensive use of computers, and the authors give examples of algorithms used in concept design. They provide engineering insight as well as an understanding of the intricacies of the submarine design process. The book will serve as a text for students and as a reference manual for practicing engineers and designers in marine and naval engineering.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good general introduction for technically oriented reader, February 18, 2001
By
Thomas Faith (Rotterdam Netherlands) - See all my reviews
Well organized book which ranges over the topics of general design principles to the mechanics of pressure hulls, boyancy, propolusion and underwater hydrostatics. For the technicaly oriented beginner, insights into the specifics design parameters suffer by the authours' frequent ommission of definitions for their terms. Overall well worth the time to orienting oneself to the subject of submarine design.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb insight into the most complex of all ships., December 3, 1997
This review is from: Concepts in Submarine Design (Cambridge Ocean Technology Series) (Hardcover)
One of the few engineering books that are actually readable by most human beings. For that alone it merits the highest rating. Otherwise, its an excellent and comprehensive introduction to submarines which is also inspiring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for anyone interested on submarines., September 6, 2001
By
"eliezer_rodriguez" (Aguadilla, Puerto Rico Puerto Rico) - See all my reviews
This book offers excellent information from a military point of view but, it is extremly usefull for any submersible. The language is extremly simple even for non-navy oriented readers. The ilustrations are very clear and the book covers from history of military subs to almost how to plan its construction.
