5.0 out of 5 stars Conceptual Drawing is great
Conceptual Drawing is an excellent book for anyone wishing to develop their communication level through sketches, or improving existing skills. It is not only for students but also for business people wishing to use sketching in place of words in order to get complex ideas across to people. Conceptual Drawing
Not an easy read. The author seems confused about his audience, sometimes he is addressing students and at other times he is addressing teachers. Text is not well connected to illustrations.

Conceptual Drawing is an excellent book for anyone wishing to develop their communication level through sketches, or improving existing skills. It is not only for students but also for business people wishing to use sketching in place of words in order to get complex ideas across to people. I have many sketching books but his one stands out for two reasons:
1) The number and different levels of contributors.
2) The videos which bring both a human touch and bring motion to a subject that requires motion to be fully understood.

I have made this book a must have for my Industrial Design and Engineering students, kids interested in becoming designers and professionals interested in learning to sketch.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, December 1, 2010

This review is from: Conceptual Drawing (Paperback)
I think the content of this book is very outdated. The drawings and the approach seem messy and there doesn't seem to be much concern for precision when drawing. I hoped to get a book that would inspire and educate. The education side is there but his attitude to the work itself, as he always says in his video, is "rough", very ROUGHLY! The content seems to be from 30 to 40 years ago and none has been updated! I'd return it if I could.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great companion to Rapid-Viz, September 23, 2010

This review is from: Conceptual Drawing (Paperback)
Since I have a high interest in the "architectural rendering" drawing/painting "representative" style, this book is superb. I'm currently using it in concert with "Rapid-Viz", another Amazon selection. Together, these two books allow for a rapid but controlled development of sketching and drawing skill if you only follow the author's directions. In addition, Conceptual Drawing comes with a well-done DVD that illustrates the printed lessons very well. Like Rapid-Viz, this represents "book money well spent". Even if you're not interested in architectural rendering as a chosen art style, both of these books will help you develop your skills toward the art style of your choice. I have accumulated a reasonably large library of art instructional books, but these are the two from which I choose to learn.
