4.0 out of 5 stars Captain Sky!!---Riding The Wave Of The P-Funk Crest!!
I couldn't do anything but smile when I saw this!
Captain Sky used to set it off back in the
late 70's & early 80's (my days!) when we used to
have those "9pm Until" house parties and do dances
like "The Rock", "The Spank", "The Freak",
"The Bus Stop" "The Tilt", "The Patti-Doo", "The Gigalo" etc.!! (LOL)

3.0 out of 5 stars it is what it is
I found this on record at a flea market for one dollar. It has really great cover art, especially on vinyl!

for the bedroom dj it can be a find... "elementary school of funk" has this great bass groove at the end of it. and there are parts of other songs with instrumentation that is easily lifted.

for the party dj Sir-Jam-A-Lot might make the floor shake...

He was definitely riding the wave of what the
P-Funk dynasty started in the mid 70's, but he did
add his own little flava to it and had some marginal
street party hits! He and the late Roger Troutman's
ZAPP came on the scene around the same time and everybody
was trying to get on that Mothership vibe back then!
I wish they would release an "Ultimate Captain Sky"
which will include not only the stuff from this album,
but his jams like "Wonder Worm", "Super Sperm",
"Saturday Night Move-Ease"!!--Those we're even hotter!
But for now, this is a good one to have for true funkstaz!

5.0 out of 5 stars The FUNK World's Best Kept Secret, January 2, 2002
By
P-Dogz (New York City) - See all my reviews
Captain Sky, the FUNK world's best kept secret, was every bit as deep, freaky, and funky as Bootsy Collins, George Clinton or any of the best of them from the 70's on, but never really got his just due.

The album "Concerned Party Number 1" was probably his tightest project, which makes it all the more ironic that this album is so hard to find. In my opinion, the best cuts on this particular album are the title track "Concerned Party Number 1" and "Bubble Gum (I Chewz You)" But trust me, the entire album jams with the very essence of what 70's funk was all about. Even 20 years later this album still stands up with the best Bootsy or George Clinton ever put out. The grooves are solid, the bass is slammin', and the creative puns and plays on words are as creative as anything Dr. Funkenstein could have ever dreamed up.

If you are seriously into the funk, your collection can not be complete without this album. Captain Sky may very well be the "Little Richard" of the funk world, in that he was never really recognized for all that he contributed to the dance floors of the world. Captain Sky, if you're out there- you need to come back and show these "New Jacks" how it's done, baby. You're my Bubble-Gum, and I Chewz You!

basically every song's lyrics use word play. way too much word play and it's all very simple, kinda dumb, very tacky, word play. if you can get past that or if you like that, then this might be your next summer jam. if not then don't bother.

i stand by my purchase.

This review is from: Concerned Party #1 (Audio CD)
Although this is an import, if you are a fan of the Captain this is the version of Concerned Party # 1 that you need to get. First off, the sound quality is better plus the remixes which tend to be the downfall of some import releases actually enhance this one. Station Break closing out the album was a wonderful surprise. Rare Funk which has held the test of time.

1.0 out of 5 stars partly unconcerned, October 1, 2002

made the mistake of reading and believing the previous reviews.
wish i could have sampled this before deciding to buy.
basically the album is an ill conceived attempt at trying to
emulate george clintons funk mob - many have tried and many have failed, this is no exception.
the tracks sound mundane and one dimensional which is disappointing considering the sizeable amount of personnel
involved in the production.
only on the final track 'let me come inside' does the captain earn his stars, displaying soulful vocals not evident on the rest of the album.perhaps with hindsight this is the route he should have taken.
