None of the vital information regarding the translator, his introduction, the publisher, copyright date or bibliographical notes on previous English editions, or International Standard Book Number is given. Neither are chapter graphics, illustrations or critical diagrams included. It is an unidentified text without provenance. In other words, it is useless for scholarly reference.

the down side is that this is very dense reading.. it reads very much like some of the Victorian books in my collection (ok, not quite that bad).
on a positive note: 1. this is an incredibly important HISTORICAL work on art, especially abstract art. Kandinsky was there at the most important parts of the abstract art movement (being a member of the Blue Rider group) and his opinions and attitudes on what art was ABOUT and the meaning of symbols literally shaped abstract art in his time
2. this is a guide to help you understand the abstract art that he produced, and the art work of his contemporaries. the "meanings" of shapes and colors are incredibly useful.
3. the intersection of his work and Theosophy sheds a lot of light on what was going on at the time in the art world
I happen to love Kandinsky's work, and have always been fascinated by his life (especially the rise and fall of his influence in Russia) and while this book doesnt go over his history, it reveals a lot of his thoughts and beliefs about art, and life.

This is a highly recommended book by other artists. It is more than a little abstract as written. I feel I will need to read it two or three times to get the gist of what Kandinsky presents. I will unlikely be an abstract artist myself, but I think it is worthwhile to get an idea of how abstract artists approach their work. I am satisfied that I bought it, and will read it again (and again.)

Many of his thoughts are common currency now, so it was interesting to hear it from him. It is a shame that the Kindle version does not include the illustrations, which makes it difficult to follow at times.

If you are into Abstract Painting and really spiritual in your work this book will help you understand alot! Easy to Read if you are into the spiritual! Paragraphs have a sort of a Title to the Right side that helps in the reading.

Read in a weekend. Not too lofty, touches on the interconnectedness of art forms. Still quite relevant, with concentration on what distinguishes true, spiritual art.
