A Great Pipe Band,
By
This review is from: In Concert: Ballymena 1983 (Audio CD)
I don't know that much about pipe bands (I own a practice chanter and I've been to 12 Highland games; that's it) but this is the first CD I ever bought, and man, does it rock! These guys were doing "experimental" stuff in 1983. Songs based on gesture, not melody, harmonies, grace-note melodies and more. While not as flawless as my local Simon Frasier University, I would be surprised if Dysart and Dundonald were anything other than Grade 5 when they recorded this. The only people I would say shouldn't buy this CD are haters of pipes and those who want straight-ahead, no interest, boring medleys and marches.
