Editorial Reviews

Review

"Jim Moody writes with authority, clarity, and conviction, and insists on keeping it fresh. Concert Lighting 3rd Edition updates his body of knowledge with the latest gear and trends in the industry. Moody's writing is easy to understand, not just because he knows his stuff, but because he's been living it for decades. Anyone who wants to understand any facet about the nuts and bolts of concert lighting should absorb this book into their personal library." - Steve Shelley, lighting designer, author of A Practical Guide to Stage Lighting, and Field Template designer

"Jim Moody is one of the captains of the concert and touring industry, having spent time on the road and at the head of the class leading new generations of aspiring professionals into the field. This, the third edition of Concert Lighting is the most up-to-date and complete work on the subject that you will find. Moody masterfully covers a lot of ground with just the right amount of depth and breadth of the subject, interjecting his own considerable experience with that of several major lighting designers and artists. If you consider yourself a professional or an aspiring professional you will devour this book." - Richard Cadena, author of Automated Lighting and Electricity for the Entertainment Electrician and Technician

"This book is a great read, and I recommend it for those just starting out or for seasoned professionals. This book helps you keep your knowledge fresh and is a reminder that the industry is moving forward and that we should try to keep up with the advances that seem to be happening daily. This book should be considered a tool in the lighting technician and/or designer's toolkit. I highly recommend that you beg, borrow, or buy yourself a copy of this text." - Stephen Dean, CX Magazine

4.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!, June 10, 2000
"Concert Lighting : Techniques, Art, and Business" is one of the most useful books on lighting. I have been a lighting designer for a few years now, and have read many many books on lighting, theater and concert. "Concert Lighting : Techniques, Art, and Business" goes into great depth for designing with intelligent lighting, as well as using fogs, hazzers and pars. "Concert Lighting : Techniques, Art, and Business" also gives great information on all companys from which to buy these items, and the many different ways to control them. "Concert Lighting : Techniques, Art, and Business" is a definite winner with my company and I. I will continue to refer "Concert Lighting : Techniques, Art, and Business" to all associates in my field, as well as in others.

5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must for anyone in charge of the finer technical details of a concert, February 15, 2010
This review is from: Concert Lighting, Third Edition: Techniques, Art and Business (Paperback)
A good concert is about more than the music. "Concert Lighting: Techniques, Art, and Business" is the third edition of Focal Presses's acclaimed guide to the importance of good lighting in concert settings. James Moody is an experienced theatre technician, and Paul Dexter has done lighting for some of the biggest acts in Rock such as Ozzy Osbourne and Motley Crue. Good lighting enhances the music, makes the experience more memorable and more likely to return for another show. "Concert Lighting" is an absolute must for anyone in charge of the finer technical details of a concert.
