5.0 out of 5 stars The power of the blues giant in concert
Son House was a delta blues giant that showed many followers like Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson the way to play the great blues. Son House was really the embodiment of the raw, mystical, powerful and deeply emotional Mississippi delta blues. 3.0 out of 5 stars not his best
if you want to hear some great live son house, get "delta blues and spirituals" instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars The power of the blues giant in concert, April 5, 2002
This review is from: In Concert (Audio CD)
Son House was a delta blues giant that showed many followers like Muddy Waters and Robert Johnson the way to play the great blues. Son House was really the embodiment of the raw, mystical, powerful and deeply emotional Mississippi delta blues. He produced many great recordings after his rediscovery in in the early 60's, and Son House did this concert in 1965 on a show where Mississippi John Hurt also played. To hear the acappella 'A True friend is hard to find' and the incredibly intense 'It's so hard', to me that is the essence of the blues. The other songs are classic live recordings as well, Son House is inspired and in full force in front of a receptive audience. Take this home, and then listen to some of the greatest 60's blues recordings. Then proceed with the rest of his recordings, especially the 30's(collected on the Document records CD 'Complete recorded works') and 40's recordings(collected on the Travelin Man CD 'The Complete Library of Congress Sessions'), and 'The Father of the Folk Blues' on Columbia. Simply amazingly great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some track names are incorrect, August 20, 2010

I love Son House. I don't own this album, but if it's Son House I assume it's pretty awesome. You can disregard my star rating if you want, I just felt it necessary to point out that some of the track names are incorrect on this album. Track 3 in not called "Judgement Day," it's probably House's most famous song "Death Letter." Track 4 is not called "New York Central," it's "New York State Express." And track 5 is not "A True Friend is Hard to Find," it's "Grinnin' In Your Face."
I just felt I should write this review for the sake of accuracy.
Thanks for reading
