My reasons for putting this cd above all others is because it is "live" and with a very adoring audience who respond with such laughter that it is almost as good as being there. And Lehrer also introduces each song with a very funny comment which sets us up for a great concert performance and it just never fails to have me laughing out loud no matter how many times I listen to it.

I have heard his entire recorded collection and this is my favourite of all of them. Five stars for Mr Lehrer every time.

I am giving this item only three stars because it is barely more than a repackaging of two previously-released Lehrer classics: "Tom Lehrer Revisited" and "An Evening Wasted with Tom Lehrer".

I have nothing against combining a pair of albums into a single CD. I just wish there had been some indication in the product description or on the outside of the packaging. As it is, one must break open the shrink wrap and flip to page 6 of the jewel case booklet to confirm what I had feared. There are a few photos of the Professor and some biographical notes that I have never seen before. But for an owner of the two original albums, those tidbits of Lehrer lore are hardly worth the cost of the CD.

That said, the performances here are classic Tom Lehrer. His spoken introductions to the songs are a treat in themselves. Professor Tom is at the top of his game on the "Evening Wasted" portion of this collection (tracks 1-11). The well is not quite as full on the following tracks and, quite sadly, his marvelous self-introduction to the "Revisited" songs has been completely omitted. Note also that the Reprise Records edition of "Revisited" includes the bonus tracks "L-Y" and "Silent-E". It is no surprise that those songs are not to be found in this collection.

If you are new to Tom Lehrer, this collection is an OK choice and can save you a few bucks. But my recommendation would be to buy "Wasted" and "Revisited" separately. If you already have a full Lehrer collection, you will probably be as disappointed as I was with the lack of new material.

I am now on a mission to introduce as many of my friends as possible to Tom. If
you enjoy political satire, Tom's your man. The combination DVD-CD (available
through Amazon)is the one I recommend as a starter. The man is a genius flat out.
