I was at this show. I live in Los Angeles, and Bunny played here in Long Beach (a 3 hour show!) before the Madison Square Garden concert - so this show wasn't really his "comeback" - not to mention the fact that no Rasta would say "comeback," they'd say "go forward." ;) My seats were in the first row, and I arrived early. When the show was about to start I turned around to see the entire Garden full to the brim. I thought at most the first level would fill, but the place was packed. The show itself was almost exactly the same as the Long Beach show - which is to say, amazing. Bunny didn't play much in the U.S., but these shows were incredible both in their scope and impact. He performed nearly the entire Blackheart Man album - a seminal Reggae classic impeccably played by seasoned JA vets. The dancers and hoopla were really secondary to the music. Bunny kept the music true to the roots, and did not deviate or falter. Both shows were transcendent, and I feel extremely lucky to have seen them. I saw Bunny perform in Orange County about a year later and I don't know what it was, but the show was lackluster...perhaps the Long Beach and Madison Square Gaarden shows set too high a standard. This isn't just a video tape, it's a historical record. Reggae will never again be as crucial as it was in the 70's and early 80's, so documents such as this are precious.

Greetings all,Just wanted to let people know that, contrary to what the text about the video states, "by 1986" Marley may have been gone, but Peter Tosh was murdered in September of 1987. So by 1986, Tosh was still very much alive. one love

Bunny Wailer performing at Madison Square Garden. I dont know what circumstances brought a film crew to this event but it was no doubt a blessing from above. If any video camera ever recorded an artist just as they peaked this is the show to look for.
A magic performance from Jah B and his band and entourage. I've seen Jah B play live twice here in Sweden where I live over the years and this video keep me going over the decades I have to wait for his next arrival. This summer he is supposed to play at the Uppsala Reggae Festival and it will no doubt be a farewell show of sorts as he is coming of age no doubt. See this movie if you can and walk the proud land ever after as you stand predominant and keep on moving through the struggle. |
