5.0 out of 5 stars A giant concert!, April 6, 2005
This review is from: Concerto Gregoriano (Audio CD)
It's a real shame the majority of the great violinists have decided to neglect this work. Composed in 1921, this score is a noble, serious and expressive of this notable composer, forgotten so many times as Ottorino Respighi. Despite this is one the few available recordings, we expect for the future a better and major treatment for this piece which is considered as a mere vehicle of exhibitionism and fireworks for the soloist.

The concertos on this disc may not be familiar but are very much worth buying. This recording is very sharp and clear. Mr. Cappelletti plays beautifully and his instrument (a Stradivarius)has an excpetional tone. The concertos themselves are interesting works. The Concerto Gregoriano is lyrical and at times dramatic. The Concerto all'antica sounds more like Respighi under the spell of Vivaldi and earlier Italian music (as the name indicates). It is less ambitious perhaps but enjoyable.
