5.0 out of 5 stars 20th Century Trombone Concertos March 9, 2009
Format:Audio CD
These are some of the best works
written in the 20th century for
an orchestral instrument that
does not come very often to the
spotlight. The concerto by
the Danish composer Launy Grondahl
is the earliest in this CD, it
dates from 1924, followed by the
Bloch concerto of 1954, and the
the concerto by Nino Rota from
1969, and the most recent from
the early 1990's is the Arutiunian
concerto. All works are well played,
and well written too. The Grondahl
concerto is the best known work
by this composer, and Nino Rota,
we know already from his film scores,
and Arutiunian we know from earlier
recordings of his famous trumpet concerto.
and Bloch, well Bloch is the best known
composer in this CD.
