This volume of three- hundred biographical sketches generally chooses very worthy and memorable subjects. It avoids the monstrous evil names, and focuses more on those of considerable positive achievement. It is generally accurate, and I found that in reading biographies of people whose stories I know well, for instance Kafka and Salinger that there was 'new information' for me also.
Though there are some entries I would have preferred not seeing , and which I thought misleading, in general this is truly a fine piece of work. |
