Book Description

December 1996 3110145359 978-3110145359 3 rev
An up-to-date, comprehensive yet compact source of biochemical and molecular biological data containing more than 4,500 entries and over 1,000 figures, formulas and tables. The ideal reference book for the researcher, teacher and student. In the third edition existing entries have been revised and where necessary, entirely re-written. Many new entries on Molecular and Cell Biology have been included. Advances in our knowledge of metabolic pathways have not been ignored. There are also new entries on methods for the determination of macromolecular structure and conformation. Several topics have been reorganized, and certain subjects previously grouped together have now been separated anbd accorded more extensive treatment as separate entries.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This third edition of the Concise Encyclopedia Biochemistry is a revised and expanded translation of the German title Brockhaus ABC Biochimie (Brockhaus, 1981), itself a second edition of the 1976 original. Covering all areas of biochemistry, the 4500+ concise entries range from a paragraph to a few pages. Many new entries on cell and molecular biology have been added, while other entries have been updated and reorganized. The more substantial entries include brief citations to English-language literature. Although the use of initials for the term being described detracts slightly from the readability, the text is nicely augmented by more than 1000 figures, formulas, and tables; figures illustrating reaction pathways are small but clear. Overall, a useful resource for academic libraries.?Teresa Berry, Univ. of Tennessee Lib., Knoxville
