This cornucopia of easy-to-use information covers everything associated with the game of hockey. Arranged alphabetically, the entries range from immortals like Gordie Howe and Wayne Gretzky to the Miracle on Ice (the improbable 1980 Olympic victory of the underdog U.S. team over the esteemed Soviet squad) to definitions of ice jargon such as cycling, long side, pipes, slewfooting, and spinnerama. The text is illustrated by 70 black-and-white photos, and appendixes list the winners of the Stanley Cup, Memorial Cup, NCAA, Olympics, and World Championships for men, women, and juniors. A detailed index provides easy access. Carroll is a natural to write this encyclopedia, having already edited 20 books on hockey. A welcome addition to the vast assortment of titles on the market. Short biographies on the top hockey players and top teams in the NHL are complemented by paragraphs on hockey's various leagues, cups, international events, rules and terms. There are numerous black & white photos throughout. A very readable book and it's small enough (9.25in x 7.5 in) to be portable and sit on the bedside table.

I found this book very easy to read. It has everything I've always wanted to know about hockey in it. I've recommended it to several of my friends who have sons who play hockey and they found it to be very helpful and informative.
