5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Useful Chinese Words in Your Purse or Pocket

1.0 out of 5 stars No competition for the Oxford Concise
Tuttle produces some good books, but this one falls far short of A.P. Cowie's Oxford Concise Chinese-English English-Chinese Dictionary which is also available through Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Useful Chinese Words in Your Purse or Pocket, June 23, 1999
This review is from: Concise English-Chinese Romanized Dictionary (Tuttle Language Library) (Paperback)
My students love this excellent dictionary for people who need to find the most useful words really quickly. Petite-sized, it's very light and will fit in your shirt pocket or purse, and the vocabulary is carefully selected, including only the most common and useful words.

Most dictionaries include only the English and Chinese characters; this one provides the Chinese pronunciation, as well. Romanized in genuine and accurate Wade, complete with superscript numerals for tones, the correct pronunciation is always accurately rendered.

Wonderful for people who need to survive in a Chinese society, or for anyone that wants instant Chinese with them anywhere, anytime, this highly petite yet practical dictionary is worth much more than its price.

Quo also has written a twin Chinese-English dictionary, which I equally recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Horrible Dictionary, January 5, 2004
This review is from: Concise English-Chinese Romanized Dictionary (Tuttle Language Library) (Paperback)
This dictionary sucks and thats why I'm actually writing a review so I can rant about it. I'd advise strongly not to get it. My Chinese is decent and this dictionary translates English to chinese pretty bad. An example, is their translation of giraffe isn't the normal Chinese work for it. So stay away from this book.
