This is great introductory reading for those wishing to peruse the catalogs of those composers that altered the future of music forever. With examples of works from many composers, one can derive fundamental knowledge of the avant-garde music of the early 20th century. This is not a technical book so those looking to learn technique and form should look elsewhere. It is a very informative book however and the chronological chapters make it easy to understand.
